Touch Button lights

On my new DHD I notice that the lights on the touch buttons go off at seemingly random times after various levels of inactivity and do not always come back on when the phone is moved or the lighting conditions change. I would have thought that any energy saving feature would be linked to the screen standby settings.

Is this normal? Is there any way to change the way these lights are turned on/off?

On my DHD lighting of display and lighting of buttons change synchronously.

Do you use a task killer?
With Froyo a task killer could do this.

They seem to go of in the day only for me depending on brightness and in evenings and night they're always on.

Thanks , I think the light sensors are fooled a bit by artificial lighting, especially fluorescent lights. In darkness they work fine but in a dim room they get a bit confused
