Updating my motorola droid from 2.1-update1 to 2.2

I am trying to update my morotola droid from 2.1-update1 to 2.2. but I got exclamation mark when I am trying to update it from settings->about phone->check for updates, and when I am trying to update it manually I get error message "can't open /cache/recovery/command". any suggestions?

Then i tried to get root access, but I need to downgrade it to 2.0.1 version so I tried to run sbf from rsdLite but there is another error message "phone is not compatible with multi-interface super-file".

so is there any way to get android 2.2 on my phone?

I had same problem they ended up sending me a new (reconditioned) phone
