Updating pre-installed apps!

Hi all,

Im pretty new to the android forum so please bare with me. I've got the DHD and I love it. But the only issue I have is these pre-installed apps such as; facebook, twitter and peep.

First of all why do i need twitter AND peep? I want to get rid of the latter and i've heard that I need to root my phone to do that. Can someone point me to a newbs step by step to rooting the DHD if such a thing exists please?

Secondly, the pre-installed apps don't have the option of updating!!!!!! So as far as I can see I have to actually download these apps again from the market and then update them when they come.

Yes, you need a rooted phone in order to remove stock app. But perhaps a simpler solution would be to simply not use those apps. Turn off any syncing they do and just don't start them.

Rooting is becoming more and more simple and user-friendly lately. However, there is still a risk that something might go wrong (either human or device error) and you'll be left with bricked phone. But, if you still want to do it, check some of these:

And yes, it seems like you have to install stock apps again from the market to enable updating.

This has always been my issue with HTC, Peep is a horrid app - I can't see why they didn't go with the official Twitter app from the off...hopefully they'll get the message eventually
