Help USB "Ask on connection" option missing since Gingerbread update

Since updating my phone to Gingerbread I no longer have the option of setting USB to "Ask on connection". When the install first finished it was also choosing Kies by default so I went to change that only to see that the option I want was no longer there. Was this really removed in the latest update? Seems bizarre to me if it was!

Yes it has indeed been removed. And whats more ironic is if you want to connect in mass storage mode for file transfer then you have to take the complicated route of enabling USB debugging.

Just go to Settings, Wireless and Network, USB Settings and choose Mass storage.
You don't have to enable USB debugging.

Hmm that doesnt work for me atleast. When I did that I never got the option on phone to mount the device i.e. on 2.3.3.

I dont know if that works for other people or not.

I do not have a USB settings option in Wireless and Network.

I am running 2.3.6. Is that Gingerbread?
