Help Volume buttons

This is not a big issue, but it sure is annoying. The volume buttons should control ring volume by default, unless an app is opened and it would then control media volume, correct? However, even if I am not inside an app, i.e. the home screen, it is the media volume that is being controlled. So to go to and from vibrate and ringing, I have to go to Settings-> Sound, which is a pretty roundabout way of changing ringer volume. Am I missing something obvious here?

So your saying when you are at your home screen, and you press the volume buttons, it adjusts your media volume? If so, something is not set right. On my home screen the buttons adjust the ringtone volume.
