Help weird cable problem

I got a new charging cable and when i connected the microusb alone into the phone with the other usb end not pluged to anything the pops up connected via usb. I then ignored that and connected the usb end into wall charger but it doesnt want to charge. is there a fix to this or should i just go buy a new cable and hope the same thing doesnt happen?

That is a new one on me... It sounds like the phone is detecting some anomaly with the data pins on that connector. I recommend finding a different cable.

^ This. The cable is shorted out, return it if brand new.
