Help what's the most current android os for Eris?

what is the current android os for the Droid Eris? My firmware version says 2.1 and ive seeing stuff about 2.2 and 2.3 out but my phone never notified me and when I go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates and it says its up to date

2.1 is the official most up to date version.

anything past that requires rooting.

2.2 and 2.3 (Froyo and Gingerbread) are being talked about for the Eris. both of which have developers working on getting it to us.

2.1 is the official most up to date version.

It should be noted that there was an over the air update delivered in July (though I don't have the exact version number for it.) However, for reasons that I cannot understand, the last that I checked, for some reason Google seemed to turn off the update for the Eris. You can check for updates all that you want, but they will not be found, unless Google has (or will) turn them back on again.
