why arent these things fixed on the evo yet?

I know theres supposed to be a update on monday which has a possible fix for the battery but this battery is draining to much

i had my phone on the charger while i took a nap and it charged from 6% to 95% and its been 15 minutes and im already at 83%, ive messed with the settings to fix the battery but it doesnt seem to have done anything .. wtf is up man its like pissing me off how bad the battery is right now what are some of the settings that i should change that i dont need to use or apps i should download to fix it

another thing that really annoys me is why doesnt this phone push like my iphone used to?
as soon as something would happen whether it was a new email or something facebook or twitter didnt matter, it would automatically push and be up to date.. this evo i have to refresh it for everything whats the deal?

and why does the facebook app suck so much on this phone and yet i cant find another facebook app? i cant even accept a friend request on it

It's a different phone... If this thing did everything the iPhone did, it would be called.... You guessed it an iPhone...

The phone has an auto refresh toggle if you use the power control widget (or in the settings)... If you turn that off, it conserves batteries and also eliminates any updates to things like the weather widget... You have to manually update it... So make sure you have that on...

As for the apps themselves, they are set to update on intervals... If you have a program that ran checks for updates every seconds, guess what happens to your battery... Yeap you guess it, it would suck...

For the battery thing, you might want to take the steps everyone has suggested, download the spare parts app, look under battery history, and find the partial awake usage on the phone... If you have something that lists as 100%, it is actually holding your phone hostage and not letting it sleep... Either kill that app when not in use, or disconnect it...

Until you done some research, there is no way anyone can help you...

I can go from full charge to 0 in 4 hours with non-stop gaming, or make it last 24 hours depending on how lazy I am about turning off my radios... My regular setup I have everything cept 4G, Bluetooth, and GPS on... I still get a good 10 hours easy with 5 hours of up time...

P.S. Facebook app has been said to be a battery killer... Same with things like Meebo (chat client) if left running... I had 100% wake time with Meebo installed and STILL get about 8 hours before getting the 15% on my daily work schedule use... With it OFF however, I've hit beyond 12 hours on idle 80% left...

The facebook app doesn't push. That's the app dev's problem, not the EVO.

Battery problems were huge for me on the EVO. I did all the tricks, etc,... I ended up buying two batteries and a wall battery charger on Ebay for 10.90 (that included shipping) and it's changed so much for the better. I don't care about the battery anymore and have fun whenever I want. It's so easy to put an extra battery in my purse. (or pocket).

There are several known problems with the Iphone 4, both of design/hardware nature. Just holding the phone is an issue to go along with dropped calls, and several other problems that suggest it being far from superior than the EVO

Ive noticed that on one charge my battery will 18 hours and other times I struggle for 8.

Example, I charged my phone used it for about 3 hours. Was at 60%. Put it in airplane mode with gps off and about 8 hours later of not being used and airplane mode still on the battery died in that time frame.

No idea what drained it in that period, no radios were on and it was never turned on but it died.

Other times I've used it heavy for 6 hours and let it sleep 4 hours and manage to be at 40% still.

It is weird.

You can set up multiple gmails, as well as have your yahoo and aol email forward themselves to a gmail and it would push directly to your phone. you can even set up labels to sync so you know what mail came from where.

Yea there are issues with the phone, but nothing is perfect. The two issues you seem to have clash with each other. The phone can indeed "push like an iphone" but that will drain the battery. Your phone or battery may be defective but in general there is nothing wrong with the battery. It is all in the settings which is what makes android so much better (imo) then the iphone.

I have had the EVO for a little over a week now and have had decent battery life until today. I charged my phone all night last night headed to work about 11:00 made one phone call for about 5 minutes. Went to lunch at 3:30 and my phone was completely dead.

Only thing I changed last night was I downloaded Astro file manager so was completely shocked to find a dead phone with basically everything turned off. I stopped by Best Buy and first thing the sales person ask me is if I have an task killer? Sprint store guy asked me the samething. Have read on these forums not to use the task killer etc. Any issues with astro that folks know of ?

i've had Astro for a couple days and never noticed it being a battery drain. i always press Back until it says "press Back to exit" and press back to exit it.

From what I know, that when charging on the wall and the battery hits 100% the charging function faults and doesn't automatically run off of A/C power. The phone apparently runs off of battery while it's actually connected to the A/C, but the OS doesn't know it. Not completely sure the problem, but knowing what the problem is, makes me overlook it. HTC knows whats going on and their working on fixes.

Pushing its the software developer, not the hardware. So the EVO isn't to blame, but the Developers. The only real thing HTC has connected to the EVO is the hardware, and some of the SENSE UI in the Android OS. I doubt the SENSE UI has problems with the Push function.

Facebook app is all Facebook's developers app. It IS possible that the Android OS is preventing some of the Push functions of the OS. Of course, anything is possible now-a-days.

The EVO is a very powerful device. I've wen't from a G1 with T-Mobile, to an Droid Eris with Verizon, and now an EVO 4G with Sprint. Each time the Battery life has gotten better as the phone as gotten more powerful and faster.

If you put all of the advancements achieved from the EVO 4G and put it into the G1, it would last forever. My wife has a HERO and our batteries are the exact same. So we know, it's not the Battery's fault it runs out of juice so fast, it's the Device. Which of course, I expected from such a smartphone device.

I am nothing put more impressed each time HTC releases a device. As well as Google's advancements in the Android OS. The phones now do so much more than we could of ever imagined a few years ago. It's astounding. It's only going to get better. Each phone has it's draw-backs and it's advantages. Knowing what the phone can, and can not do shouldn't upset anyone. it's a learning experiance. research and YOU TUBE sure dose help.

I know the feeling. Some days I will only get about 10 hours, which imo isnt bad, but could be better. Then I have days like this.

I use my phone pretty much the same every day. 200ish texts, a few calls, xiialive, etc.

That's exactly what's going on, and technically it's not a problem. Do some reading on charging Lithium Ion batteries and here's what you'll find:

Lithium Ion batteries are charged to 4.2 volts, and then the voltage actually starts to decrease. Once there is a 3% delta between peak current and the decrease after peak, the battery stops accepting a charge. This is normal and proper behavior for Lithium Ion batteries.

Upon reaching this peak voltage [4.2], a constant voltage charge is initiated until the charge current reduces to 3% of the rated current. Upon completing the charge, a top off charge may be used to insure to counteract the self-discharge of the battery and protective circuit. This top off charge may be initiated when the open circuit voltage of the battery reaches less than 4.05 volts and terminate upon reaching the full charge voltage of 4.1 to 4.2 volts. Depending on the battery, this top off charge may be repeated once every 20 days.

So what can you do about this? When you wake-up in the AM, unplug your phone and plug it in again 5 minutes later until it reaches 100% again.
