Auto brightness not automatically doing anything?

How come the auto screen brightness doesn't seem to change how bright the screen is? The sensor itself is working fine, as using the proxylight sensor app (free on the market) it does actually register changes in light...

It does, it simply gradually changes brightness rather than a sudden jump.

There honestly is no change as far as I can see. For example, at night with no lights on, it is still so bright to look at it makes your eyes hurt after a while!

I think the lowest auto goes is 30%. Amoled is brighter than conventional

You haven't just upgraded to 1.21.405.2 have you? One of the problems I found after upgrading was that auto-brightness had stopped having any effect until I revisited the setting and turned it off and then back on again...(the setting, not the phone!)

I have felt my brightness changing sometimes when I move indoors or outdoors, so the feature is working fine.
But I too feel the brightness at night with no lights on is too much.

When you go outdoors and the brightness is the same as when you were indoors, you know it's working ok..

It's been the same before and after kid recent update, I also tried restarting the setting since. Is there any way to make the auto brightness go below 30% in total darkness then? Is there an app that can actually display the brightness as a percentage so I can see for certain that it works? Even if auto brightness does drop to 30%, when I manually set the brightness to 100% it's no brighter! Hence me assuming it's not changing anything.

Ok Stuart,

Go to a dark place in your house.
Go to Settings -> Sound and Display -> Brightness. Then uncheck the 'auto' checkbox, and drag your screen brightness to maximum. Wait for a few seconds, then click the 'auto' checkbox.

Now your screen brightness should reduce in front of your eyes. If it doesn't, your phone is probably faulty.

Like I've said already, it doesn't. Is there an app available that actually shows me the brightness as a percentage on the screen to see for certain? The slider works fine when not set to auto, but the auto setting really doesn't seem to influence anything at all...

Dunno about the app, buddy.. But for me as soon as I tap 'auto' the brightness reduces over a period of around 2 seconds.

download the dazzle widget - you can add brightness to it (its like the andriod power control one but better) you can see a difference between 100% and auto and you can push button toggle between modes. if it doesnt change I would send your phone back
