Any former iPhone owners?

I'm curious if there is anyone here that switched from AT&T and the iPhone to verizon and the Ally?
My company is now offering a 22% off discount on my monthly service for verizon. Verizon here is very strong and better than AT&T both at work and home, my only concern is the phone itself? Would I be satisfied with the Ally?
It's only $29 at best buy and I don't really want to spend a couple hundred bucks just to get the incredible or the X

its a good phone i like it better then the ifail, we are just waiting for the update to fix the lag issue here and there but i think there just going strate to 2.2 instead of a patch.

personally, I would go with the original droid over the ally. bigger screen, better processor with dedicated GPU, better camera, and its a developer phone so it will be first in line for new upgrades. It has a huge dev community, and there are tons of apps that were designed for other phones that have been ported to the droid. It ain't the prettiest phone in the world, but there will always be a new sexier phone coming out anyway.

I will be honest with ya...I have the Motorola Droid and my wife has the LG Ally....they are very very similar, but the screen size on the Ally just isn't big enough for my taste...compared to my Droid, it is harder to type on the touchscreen keyboard because the keys are a good bit smaller. That said, the physical keyboard on the Ally is WAY better than my Droid.

Even though the Ally has a slightly faster processor, the Droid is noticeably smoother when scrolling and just using the phone in general (typing on screen too).

If I were in your shoes, I would definitely dump At&t for Verizon....BUT, the Ally wouldn't be my first choice...and I'm concerned that coming from the iPhone (which is admittedly very smooth and responsive), that the Ally may be a little "frustrating" at times.

I too did NOT like the form factor of the Droid at first...in fact, I literally tried every other smartphone offered by Verizon before going with the Droid...but now that I have it, I DO actually love it...I've had 7 phones in the last year, and this one is by far my favorite.

Not trying to steer you towards something you don't want, just want you to hear from someone who has used BOTH phones back to back. I say drop the extra cash for the Droid X, Incredible, or even the current Droid.

Just like you said, I may get frustrated with the lag on the droid after using all the iPhones.
The droid x may be a bit too big for my taste, and the incredible keeps being pushed back.

My wife has an Ally, and its on par with the Eris or Devour, Not the Droid. Let alone the Incredible or the X. And I'm telling you guys, the ally is a heavy phone. I don't really understand why its has so much weight.

not nessecarily between the Ally and Droid. The Droid uses a ARM v7 CPU while the Ally uses an ARM v11(which is worse than the v7)

v7 is the core used in the Cortex A8, Snapdragon, Hummingbird, OMAP etc.

v11 is the core used in the tried and true MSM7201a and the recently utilized 7627 ala the Ally, Legend, and MyTouch Slide

So the Droid CPU still blows the Ally's out of the water because it is much faster clock for clock. Like comparing a Core 2 Duo or Core i3 to a Celeron really. While the clock speed might be higher on the Celeron it'll still get mopped up by the C2D or i3

Then you also have to address the Dedicated GPU VS the onboard. That is where the huge difference in user accessible RAM is, with the Droid have about double. My personal philosophy is that these phones are more akin to netbooks that can make calls as opposed to phones that can surf the web.

And the Core-i7 Extreme FTW. 12 Cores just can't be beat.

The devour and the droid are both heavier than the ally.
