I'm an advanced computer user, run Windows 2003 Enterprise/Cent OS webservers, programming, dual boot arch linux/windows and more. I've been thinking about rooting due to the flexibility that it offers, getting rid of apps I don't want from stock rom and managing start up tasks and more. I do have a few questions and I've been searching with not a lot of answers.

  1. What is NAND Backup?
  2. How do I revert to stock rom if I don't enjoy root?
  3. Can I make a full backup of the ROM/SD Card to do a restore like I never rooted?
  4. Can I restore current app data so I don't have to start from *scratch* on my device?
  5. Any major limitations/bugs with roms right now?
I have a few more questions, but I can't think of them right now. I was thinking of holding out on root, but I'm impatient and love to push my devices to the limits to get the full potential.

1. Full back up of your current ROM. This comes in handy if you need to restore to a previous state after messing something up.

2. To revert to full stock, just run the RUU while HTC Sync is running.

3. No, in order to do a full backup/restore you need to have nand unlocked, therefore restoring from nand will always bring you back to a rooted version of the ROM. Run RUU for full stock.

4. Yes, I used Titanium Backup but there are also others.

5. Currently only with FroYo roms but this is temporary.
