I don't want to "re-hash" this subject since a Google search shows the ongoing debate...but, what are those with a history with Android devices thoughts on task killing. I read the creator of Advanced Task Killer even said these were more useful prior to 2.0 and prior versions. I do notice when I turn my phone on things like "Google Talk" start, which I never use.

I personally don't really ever advise a task killer. On earlier versions if the OS, I can understand the need, since they weren't as efficient in handling multitasking, but as I said in my other post, Android is actually very good at handling itself and its processes now. Most times people with killers kill things that need to be running, and the phone has to work that much harder to kick up the process again. While a killer may help short term, you risk your phone using more battery killing important things, and can make your device a little laggy.

Some preinstalled services do run, and can only be removed after obtaining root. But leaving them be uses less energy than killing and it starting up again.

I recommend system panel instead, which is a little more friendly to the os. But as long as you use back and not home to exit apps, you should have no problems.

I was running a backflip before, and once they released the 13.35 I was golden. It REALLY started running well, once I stopped continuously mucking with the processes.

As others have mentioned, Android was designed to self-manage. It will bring stuff in and out as it needs, and sees fit. Just because something is a task, doesn't mean anything. The more you much with it, the worse it's going to be, because then you have the Android OS trying to manage tasks, as well as you manually messing with them.

Me? I leave mine alone, even on the Cappie.

Thanks iPenquin.....Where is the "system panel" and how do YOU use it.

Thx.

System Panel is a paid or Lite-free app in the market. Autokiller is also a kind of killer app. I actually don't use either. I just let the device do what it needs to, and I get at least 8 hours or more a day with constant surfing/posting/YouTube-ing on my Incredible.

Again, as long as you use back to exit apps and not home, your battery life should be fine, and you shouldn't need either of these. But here you go.

REQUIRES ROOT: Autokiller: AutoKiller - Android app on AppBrain

System Panel: SystemPanelLite Task Manager - Android app on AppBrain

A pretty good article on Task Killers in general: http://androidforums.com/htc-incred...nager-vs-running-services-under-settings.html
