Hi all , im new here , and only had my desire for a few weeks.
I have recieved from China, via ebay , a 32gb sd card. It is actually 31.7gb according to my laptop. when i put it in my desire , it will not see it , or just tells me that the sd card needs formatting , then won't format it. Is this because the card is too slow,or is it an OS problem, that will be resolved when Froyo is released? All help gratefully recieved.

Unfortunately it's probably a duff card as you got it from China - lots of threads about cheap cards not working. You'd be better off getting a branded 16GB card.

Humanity. Learn to use google, please. NEVER, EVER, EVER buy a cheap memory card. We get at least one thread like this a week. If a memory card is cheap, it is a fake. You cannot cut corners in the manufacture of cards, so if one is a lot cheaper than most, it is a knockoff.

Also, some high priced cards are also fakes. As such, only ever buy cards from very highly trusted retailers like amazon or play, or highly rated eBay powersellers (99.8% or higher, preferably).

But i can write to it with my laptop, its painfully slow , but it does accept data, i copied the 1.97gb of files off my 4gb card that was in my phone when i got it, to the 32gb card, hoping the desire wouldn't even notice :D
But it did , it said no SD card attached

Wait until you get over 4GB or 8GB. Chances are its a re-engineered 4 or 8 GB card thats been told to report its a 32. If they even work at all once you get over the REAL capacity of the card then odds are that all of your data is trashed and will not be recoverable as it will be overwriting areas where there is data already. I would personally just get rid, don't risk anything important on it. A quick search through the forum will point you to 16GB cards from reputable sellers. I think a 16GB (or two) is the best option until the 32's start coming down in price.

some of the fake cards compress the data as it is written making them look bigger than they actually are. One of the side effects is read / write is very slow. This may also be why the desire cannot deal with it. As everyone else has said - give it up

30GB = 30720MB

480/30720 = 0.0156 = 1.56% Ok media

Thats a 98.44% Fail rate for the card. It is a totally bogus stick and anything you try to copy onto it after the first 480MB is going to be corrupted and unusable. If you dont believe me copy a couple movies to it and try and watch them and then type up something in notepad and save it to the stick with the movies and open it. You will find that the movies are unwatchable and any text you have written in the notepad document is corrupted.

Sorry man but you got ripped off. File with PayPal or Ebay right now.

Also if you notice, youre read write speeds are horrible. Look in the add if you can and see if they mentioned speeds in the description. Just more ammo against them. Compare advertised speeds with actual speeds.

Here is a copy of the email i sent to the seller of my bogus usb flash drives:

Hello Anna Wright I am contacting you through email regarding:
Item # Item Title Qty Price Subtotal
260574594935 128GB USB FLASH DRIVE USB 2.0 PEN STICK MEMORY 128 GB 6 $23.99 USD $143.94 USD

Item # Item Title Qty Price Subtotal
260574594935 128GB USB FLASH DRIVE USB 2.0 PEN STICK MEMORY 128 GB 1 $23.99 USD $23.99 USD

I had a dispute open in paypal and finally received the items. As promised I cancelled the claim once the sticks were delivered but after some testing I am FURIOUS! These sticks are totally fake! I first noticed something was up when I created a text file in notepad and upon inserting the stick into another computer the text was corrupted and overwritten with a wierd "y" symbol. ALSO my movies are gone from the stick and I cannot delete that folder and some .exe files no longer run at all!

I did some research and found info about MANY fraudulent activities on Ebay regarding fake USB sticks and came across a program called H2testw and tested the filesystem and here are the reports:

THATS OVER A 96% FAIL RATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and 99.3% FAIL WHEN TESTING WITH 1000MB!!!!!!!!!! and the media DEFINITELY does not reach the 20mb/s download and 10mb/s upload speeds that were advertised! You had a 100% money back guarrantee if I am not mistaken and I want my money back! Please provide me with a return address and shipping instructions. If this is not resolved quickly I will go to the authorities and do everything in my power to get my money back. You said you were an honest seller, well selling fake USB sticks is not honest at all it is deceiptful and fraudulent and illegal.

Tyler

Hope this helps you out a little.

Check the specs of your phone. I ran into the same problem with my LJ Ally and found out that the memory is only expandable to 16 GB.
