multiple emails

I got the Droid on the day it came out, set up my email account that I have at GoDaddy.com with IMAP, and now on my GoDaddy webmail there is a new folder that has been created called "Sent." This is in addition to the folder that is called "Sent Items" that is already there by default.

My problem, in addition to the new "Sent" folder, is this:

Every time I send an email from my phone, the message goes to the recipient just fine, but in the new "Sent" folder, the message gets duplicated many times. There can be anywhere from a single duplicate, to many, many more...so much so that my "Sent" folder over the course of a week, will contain upwards of 20,000 sent messages. The messages seem to continue duplicating also - there will be 3 duplicates for example, then an hour later there will be 9. This is madness!!!

I have another email account (not godaddy) that I also have set up with IMAP and it has NO problems at all.

I use outlook on my computers with IMAP...no problems. In outlook, i even have the new messages that are created and sent going to the proper "Sent Items" folder.

I have contacted people at godaddy, verizon, and motorola about this. Nobody has been able to help. I think it's either a problem with the email server or the phone, but I'm not sure.

I also have another Droid with another GoDaddy account - SAME PROBLEM...

This is driving me nuts - someone please help!

Thanks!

hi; i started a different thread on this topic, apologies..
first the sent folder is always installed (windows as well) & is simply the phone's way of ensuring syncing between phone send messages & the PC.
However i too have the problem of multiple duplications of the sent message. I have seen written that it may be a problem to do with yahoo hosting but that is not correct, as i tried to set up with 2 other domain hosts, 1 and 1, & enom central. they duplicated too.
i dont think it has to do with the method of email delivery & sync, as some of those hosting use pop 3 as well as imap.. anyway, sent items use smtp.
so ...nothing. even more frustrating as u cant delete emails in batches as far as i can c!! THe PHONE IS GR8 BUT THIS IS MADDENING.

btw r u finding your outlook on your pc sluggish now? others have said that, & i do too.

i havent noticed a change in speed in outlook.

this issue with duplicating emails needs to be resolved. the only conclusion that i have come to is that the phone may have a problem reconciling emails that it has sent, then it duplicates it for some reason in that "Sent" folder that it creates...some sort of glitch?

either way - i'm pretty pissed. i'm too busy to try to search through a jillion emails when i need to find something that i've sent.

if you find any solutions (OR IF ANYONE ELSE HAS A SOLUTION), other than getting a new or different phone, please let me know! thanks.

I had a problem with Outlook 2k, and 2007, with my Comcast account. Some times when I connect, I get duplicates pulled down to my inbox from messages 2-3 years old. Its like the server, or Outlook, doesn't see that I already have the message. I don't see any apps on the DROID that would have a configuration to "Not copy duplicates", like within Outlook. It's happened 2-3 times, and I usually just stop the sync manually. When I connect later on, its not a problem.

I had the same issue with my company's GroupWise server, using IMAP. For me, the solution was switching to the K-9 mail application (free). I'm using the latest beta, found at Project Hosting on Google Code

For GroupWise, you can use the built in Android Corporate Email APP and Corporate Calendar APP in your DROID phone to connect to your corporate GroupWise 8 backend using the ActiveSync protocol.

Ask your IT department to look at the new "Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack" solution from Novell. This will allow the current ActiveSync client technology built into most smart phones (iPhone, Android, etc) to sync to Novell GroupWise 8 and >. Your IT department can test this today in their test lab to an Android based phone and many other smart phones - see Novell Data Synchronizer Mobility Pack Technology Preview
