Issues With Pop3 Emails

I'm on my 3rd Motorola Droid in one week and all three are having the same issues syncing the pop3 accounts. Note that one device came from the store, and two were shipped so most likely not from the same batch.

Setting up the Pop3 accounts is time consuming, but not difficult at all. You have to make sure you enter the info exactly as it is set with each of your pop3 accounts or it won't pull from it.

Here are the problems I'm having:

1) Regardless of setting it to auto sync and using the minimum push time of five minutes, the device is not syncing automatically or consistently. One trick i learned is that if you actually uncheck auto sync and back out and then go back in and re-check auto sync it will start to auto sync correctly. You can also do the same with the email notifications by changing it, backing out, and then going back in and changing it to notify you. However, none of these tricks make a permanent correction to the sync. After a couple of hours you then have to do it manually.

2) The notifications that pop up in the green circles indicating the total messages in your "combined inbox" and the green circles next to each of your accounts indicating the number of new messages in each one DO NOT ADD UP PROPERLY. e.g. "comibined inbox" will say 10 messages (in the green circle), yet in account #1 the green circle will have a 3, and account #2 nothing, and account #3 will show 1 and account #4 nothing. This doesn't add up to the 10 it shows in the green circle next to "combined inbox".

3) NOTE that in the above issue accounts #2 and #4 showed no emails next to it. When I turn the device horizontally the green circles then show up next to accounts #2 and #4, yet it still doesn't display the accurate number of new messages.

Every time I call the techs are completely baffled by this and have no explanation. The only thing they can say is that they forward each complaint on to the "Motorola Droid Tech Team" and they will include it in their updates. We'll see if they fix this issue.

Aside from this the email works very well and the overall device works great.

email question: i have my regular pop forwarded to another pop for the droid to get (my outlook takes the email off the server, so if my outlook checks before the droid, my droid will never get the email. with another pop, i get everything on my phone with no sync issues).

However, I want to change the reply to address from the forwarded pop. In other words, if my real email is jdoe@test, and the forward is jdoe1@test, when I send mail from my droid, I want it to look like it is coming from jdoe , not jdoe1.

My BB/Treo/winmo all allowed you to set the reply to address to whatever you want. I can't find that (maybe missing something simple) on the droid. I haven't used k-9, does this have it?

I'm using K9 and there is a function to set different identities that you can then choose when replying. I haven't tried it out but I'm GUESSING that would allow you to have a different address appear when sending.

In regards to your Outlook issue with "deleting your messages off the server", under the "Accounts" properties, then "Advanced", there is an optioin to "Leave messages on server". That setting determine whether or not to leave the message on the sever "when viewed". Its independent from the "deletion" setting.

With K-9 mail, you should be able to setup a "display name", signature, and manage identities.

colnago (don't know if you are into bicycles, but colnago was an italian manufac of top end racing bicycles):

k-9 solved this, so thanks for the tip.

i know about outlook advanced settings, but since outlook and k-9 run asych, I can't leave messages on server and have only 1 account delete them. I wind up getting duplicates for some reason.

what i can't figure out is how to delete an account setup on the regular email app.

And if someone would only make a real direct to pc sync for outlook for contacts, calendar, and todo, everything would be good! (on hofo, there was a thread, and a few companies said they will have something by the end of the year)

I have a Master X-Light with Robobank color scheme...really, really whish I knew what the actual paint code is. Almost lost it by bending the rear dr. hanger...thank God for Bilenky Bikes. I previously had a Superissimo. ;)

On the native email app, go to "Accounts", then press and hold the acct. you want to delete. There will be a pop up menu to "Remove".

As far as contacts, direct PC would be nice, but if you haven't already, there is an Export -> Import process that I can confirm is working.

With the duplicate issue, can you explain in detail, what is happening, and what you want to happen?
