Zombie Apocalypse

And those running zombies are just Hollywood fiction, real zombies are slow, dumb, yet singleminded in their hunt for human flesh to feast on.

The Closed minded thinking of this will get you killed. to think that a species in unable to advance themselves in one way or another is is just DUMB.

Yeah i am sure that they will start out walking around like Shawn of the Dead types, but they are sure to progress to Skills that of "I am Legend" (which btw i am sooo watching tonight)

Everyone/ everything evloves and it is apart of everything.

As for the Rabbits, what are you going to feed them? are you planning on stocking up on feed and water just for them? what are you going to do with the waste of all the rabbits?

Are you going to just eat the baby rabbits or are you going to let them grow? If letting them grow what are you going to eat in the mean time...

I say if you are going through the trouble or getting food for them why not just get your own?

As for not being able to climb... ^^^see evolution comments^^^

@OfTheDamned you def need to read that book multiple times and ignore the comment on the back that states "This is just for Humor purposes"

Exactly how "solid" is this house of yours? Concrete with barred windows? If not, it is not zombie-proof!

I can seal us off inside an area of our house, with supplies and NO windows. Concrete Walls, all the utilities run from inside the concrete safe zone (my wife thinks it's for a TORNADO...sheesh) out to the rest of the house. So, we will still have our water supply, our electricity, and such. Plus our food storage is in the concrete safe zone.

Feed the rabbits with food from the garden.

The waste from the rabbits will be spread be over the garden (from the roof of the house), so that we can grow more food for the rabbits.

We will eat from the garden, and let the rabbits eat the leftovers.

We live in a very open area, and there isn't really an area that I can see from the top of my house, where I have to worry about.

I also have a compound bow (not real good with, but I can get good with) that I can use for longer range defense (from the house).

Basically we built a tornado safe area in the middle of the house, so that we wouldn't

Four of us were on a patrolling training op, and the base game warden (I assume) came by to inform us that they were trying apprehend a 400 pound hog, but that they lost it. So they were basically warning us that there was a angry 400 pound hog on the loose.

Well, we looked at each other, and I said "John (names changed to protect the innocent) your the slowest runner here. Sorry man".

He looked at us, and said with a completely straight face... "That's ok, because I'm tripping Paul".

This was way back in .... 98 I think.

btw the midwest will be the worst place to go. Flat plains with no defensive postions... i would vote for the Mountains, as long as you don't mind a little snow it will make it easier to set up camp and see tracks of anything that is around.

I might tend to disagree with the mountains as well.

BTW, saw this the other day on IFC on demand. One of the best Zombie flicks I have seen.

If you have a totally incased shelter then the exhaust/ carbon monoxide would kill you. Also if totally sealed off then you wouldn't be able to go onto your roof to spread your manure on the garden that just appeared out of no where.

Which you wouldn't be able to get to unless you are going with the theory of I am Legend with Zombies being overly sensitve to UV light to where it burns them, and if you are going with that theory then your shelter Theory has already been played out... aka you will die eventually.

to think that holding up in once place forever will work in my mind is crazy cause eventually you will go crazy (see Cabin fever)

i will have to check that out later since i am at work, but from the title i can only immagine.

EDIT: after reading a summary of the movie i would most likely hold up in a single entrace cave in the side of the mountain and not in a Cabin. Further details can be produced if need be.

There are exhaust slats, especially in the battery room.

Also if totally sealed off then you wouldn't be able to go onto your roof to spread your manure on the garden that just appeared out of no where.

There is roof access from inside the room, but it opens from the inside only, and is VERY VERY heavy to open.

We currently have a garden. So, the garden wouldn't just appear out of nowhere.

I'm going with the theory that I live WAY out in the country, so I'm going to have far fewer zombies to deal with than your average survivor.

There are about 200 potential zombies within a mile of my house at any given time. After the initial outbreak, that number should drop fairly quickly, as zombies are killed or move into more populated areas in search of prey.

The house will help us survive the initial outbreak, and then we will just have to be wary of stray zombies for the rest of our lives. No traveling into the woods. No traveling too far from the house.

Being in a sparsely populated area is a layer of protection in and of itself.

to think that holding up in once place forever will work in my mind is crazy cause eventually you will go crazy (see Cabin fever)

Our area should be relatively safe after 1-2 weeks from the initial outbreak. Being self-contained, I don't see any reason to do anything other than wait out the outbreak.

If society crumbles, and the military and police fail in their fight against the zombies, then we are best protected in one place. A moving target will constantly come in contact with more zombies, and will NEVER be safe.

If I have to choose between going crazy and being eaten alive... I'm pretty sure I'll generally opt for going crazy.

Guns are OK, but you need to pick the right guns, and really be an excellent shot. A bullet to the head is the ONLY way to kill a zombie. Any other kind of a hit is just a wasted bullet. Remember, zombies are already dead, and thier internal organs do nothing, so shooting one in the heart, lungs and gut won't even slow him down.
Although why they eat human flesh is unknown, as, like I said earlier, their internal organs don't work, so the flesh isn't digested at all. Recently killed zombies have been disected and found to have a digestive tract full of undigested flesh. Why do they hunt us then? Science is still working on this question.

So if all the internals are not working what good would it do to shoot them in the head ???

I think I might have to invest in this book and brush up on my zombie killing skills.

Though the internals of zombies don't work like digestive, heart, lungs ect. the brain controls the muscels and everything else in the body that does still work. so stopping the power plant of the body stops the Zombie.

And the ALL internals isn't the best way to phrase it obviously cause if nothing worked then there wouldn't be anything working... just think of it as a fleshy robot and the battery is the brain....

I started reading the survival guide yesterday. It is actually impressing how much research this guy put into it. Everything he is saying about how zombies would/could/do operate makes total sense when you are reading it. I've only read a little bit, but so far it is very interesting. I hope I have more time (always an issue) to read more later today/tonight.

I may just end up having a zombie film festival this weekend.

Dead Snow looks interesting. My personal favorites are Dawn of the Dead (remake) and Zombieland. Anyone else have a good suggestion?

shaun of the dead was pretty funny IMO... :D

Zombieland ftw though, I don't care how many bad a$$ zombie films they make, Zombieland takes it.

Shaun of the dead was funny, but I prefer the more serious versions of the genre. Zombieland is a really nice mix in my opinion though. It has enough funny along with enough serious in it that it just makes for a great movie. I especially like the rules.

Damn, I just discovered Dan O'Bannon (Alien creator/writer & director of Return of the Living Dead) died last December. I'm kinda bummed now.

Dead things don't evolve, they rot. I can see a freshly dead corpse running a bit, but after awhile?

Well, we looked at each other, and I said "John (names changed to protect the innocent) your the slowest runner here. Sorry man".

He looked at us, and said with a completely straight face... "That's ok, because I'm tripping Paul".

What'd Ringo say? ;)

Max Brooks is Mel's son, just incidentally. World War Z is even better.

I didn't like it, and I had REALLY been looking forward to watching it. YMMV.

I would say I am Legend though some say they aren't true Zombies i just say they are the more evolved. thats why i like them.

Also 28 days/ weeks Later, i think i like that they run after their pray and aren't entirely stupid.

In I Am Legend they were vampires. The book is much better than the movie, btw.

And as others said, 28 days/weeks they just had a rage virus and weren't actually zombies. Good movie though.
