Yeah theyre not there. Its not your fault I am sure I did something wrong. Thanks for your help though.
And still you lost prefs???

If MyBackup Pro failed to do the right job for you where Sprite would have, I'm going to pull it from the recommended procedures, depending upon other feedback.
It was my clear understanding that MyBackup Pro would have protected you from losing that stuff.
PS - Go quadruplicate - ensure stuff gets to your PC.
To anyone that decides to use sprite, keep in mind that since your going from one rom to another that your settings will not stick. Meaning if you have a ringtone set it will not keep it setup that way. This is because sprite is really for situations where you have to hard reset because of a problem program or personal reasons.
What it is good for in this situation is saving bookmarks, calendar entries, contacts, music, photos, video files, call logs, text messages, mms, and things like that. Just a FYI

Ok...so I did some searching for everyone and found some information about Sprite vs. MyBackup Pro. Here are the various links (to specific comments...you can, from there, read the rest of the threads)
I want to do a side-by-side comparison of WHAT EXACTLY EACH APP DOES to compare each and every item they back up. I will post when/if I find info...
I am little confused here.
a) Should I update first to 2.2 and then do factory reset
or
b) Should I do factory reset on my 2.1 first and then go for update to 2.2?
I appoligize if i am repeating anything...i was on a seperate thread after the offical 2.2 release.
I had Unrooted(Unrevoked3), had the OTA update (best buy did it for me), backed up throught titanium/busy box...and then added the new 2.2. I can not flash/recover anything.....It can't find busy box or says' i need to update....titanium wont work....realized my new driver was missing...reinstalled that.....but I CON NOT get to recovery....Someone said I have to wait until someone comes up with a root for 2.2...and that i am stuck for now. The big problem, besides not being able to get to recoverey mode...is the flash websites as mentioned above, so i wanted to see if anyone here knew of anything to help...and should i do the factory setting....I understand I will loose everything, contact are backed up....but I would reather start OVER, then wait....any advice would be great!!!!
EarlyMon,
Thanks for the write up. I followed everything you said but my problem is not fixed.
Primary account (personal) works just fine. The secondary gmail account (work) does not sync automatically. Both accounts are gmail.com accounts not apps. Gmail push was working just perfectly till last night on android 2.1. The sync on secondary gmail stopped working after I upgraded it to 2.2 last night. Infact I didnt even notice the problem till I missed my meeting this morning becase the email never arrived on the phone.
Earlier the gmail push was working *without* talk.. with ATK installed and autokilling apps... Now with 2.2 I have no autokiller.. I also tried factory reset and tried it without installing any apps and the problem still existed... I cant believe more people are not plauged with this problem...
Here is a summary from what I have read about this issue so far.
1) This is not isolated to HTC EVO
2) The secondary gmail not syncing seems to be a froyo problem (there are a few threads about this for android 2.1 but they refer to all gmail not syncing. Froyo does not have the option for "gmail storage" to clear data)
3) Factory reset does not help
4) Adding and removing accounts does not help
5) Same problem with any secondary account I add
6) Its not related to a particular gmail account because they dont work the other EVO as the secondary email either.
I currently have a workaround. I have forwarded my secondary gmail to [mysprintnumber]@messaging.sprintpcs.com
that way I receive an SMS when email arrives in my gmail and then I manually sync in the gmail app. Works for now, but I dont want this to be a permanent solution. This is android... the least Google could do is make gmail (and its other services) work on this perfectly.
Someone at Google, HTC or Sprint please take notice..
Device: HTC EVO
Carrier: Sprint
Country: US
OS: Android 2.2 (/w HTC Sense) - Official froyo update from sprint
I have been reading through a lot of this, and I am willing to try OP method, but only if I have to. What problems exactly are we talking about that this fixes? I got my phone yesterday and dloaded/installed the official froyo update. The only true problem I have had is with battery life. However, i really haven't downloaded many apps at all, and i haven't had the phone long. Will doing the things OP suggest actually help? (battery life especially)
Here is an idea to make life a little easier, you can edit the names of your facebook contacts (I know it will take forever). But for my "just facebook" contacts, I added Z-Facebook to the name and it stuck all my facebook contacts to the bottom of my address book. I know it is not much, but every little bit helps.
I've noticed that as well - and also - your first boot after factory reset took a little longer, if you noticed.
Now that everything is clean, you'll notice (if you're running stock or the stock odexed rooted rom) that your subsequent bootups are now MUCH faster than with 2.1.
I suspect that HTC streamlined the entire process and that the factory reset - as proctored by Sprint - might just "fix" some of that streamlining at startup.
I write it off as one of those things.
I'll check into this - maybe there's a little something we can do so it drops the Sprint babbling.
So i need help determining if my battery life is worse than i think it is. I was at work most of the day, so I used my phone for about 25-30 minutes. (sent a few texts/checked my facebook) This is how my batter stats are looking right now:
unplugged: 7h and 37m
cell standby:37
phone idle:31
android system:23
display: 7
wi-fif: 2
im at 68% right now.
compared to some of you guys, how am i doing?
