Contemplating Factory Reset

Hello - I forced to Froyo build FRG01B on stock non-rooted. I am contemplating doing a factory reset to cure some battery life woes I have been experiencing. Having never done this before I have a few questions.

What is the procedure that should be followed?
What should I back up prior to doing a FR?
Will I lose contacts or Media, Ringtones?
What about Apps?

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Everything on your SD card will remain intact, so if you have your ringtones/media there, it should be safe.

Apps will be lost, along with contacts, text message, call logs, etc.. If you sync with google, it will restore contacts and your downloaded apps, but not the app data.

I email myself text messages I want to keep for records, but you can probably search the market for an app that will back these up for you.

To factory reset:

You can go to Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset

or

Turn off phone, power on while holding 'x' on the keyboard. When you get the '!' triangle, press volume up and camera button, choose format.

Go to Settings/Privacy/Factory Data reset. Make sure to check off Back Up My Settings and Automatic Restore. This should bring back most of the apps, although a few I had to manually upload again.
You will not lose your contacts if you have gmail acccount set up. They should be transfered over. Double check your your contacts by going to your gmail acct and opening the "contacts" tab under "Mail".
You will lose any media and ringtone setup unless they are stored on the sd card. The factory reset does not affect the sd card.

Hopefully someone can verify this but that is how it worked for me.

I was actually going to ask this same question so thanks for getting that out of the way for me. To the best of my knowledge thus far, you just need to install Astro to back things up and then do the reset. But I will wait for a more definite answer as well.

Go to contacts. In the menu section, export your contacts to your SD card. Then open the astro app, open the menu then tools and application backup
Backup the apps to your SD card (you may have to reinstall a couple). If it makes you feel better you can pull out yer SD card before resetting.

To me a reset is a must after a big upgrade.... You throw a clean update on an app cluttered device and your gonna have a mess... My FRG01B runs perfect...

If I must, then I will. But Ill try anything to fix these bugs on Froyo.

Its a must.... I have done it twice (yes went back to 2.0.1 and 2.1 just to test) and the reset fixes a lot of what folks are complaining about...

I've factory reset twice with Froyo because of battery issues. To be honest, it's just a matter of time before they come back. I last factory reset on Monday night, and after two good days of no battery issues, I decided to finally setup my phone... adding shortcuts, etc., and, like clockwork, as soon as I added anything in terms of customizations... Froyo has crapped out and Android OS is running at 30 - 40% again (it's supposed to run around 2% or 3%). I'm not even adding anything "special" to the phone... it's only apps that come with it.

The OS is borked for a major amount of users and the battery life is completely flawed for many people.

I never did get the battery issue.... I can charge and go a day with 40% to spare... Not sure whats causing that for some...

Not sure what it is. After a while after a factory reset, Android freaks out and starts running the "android os" function at 40% battery life... when it should be 2% or 3%. I factory'd on Monday and it was running fine, but I started absolutely nothing (no email, no FB, no twitter, etc). And so today I decided it's been a few days... may as well login to my apps and see how it goes. Went alright for a few hours, everything seemed to be fine. Then, all of a sudden, lost about 30% of battery life in 30 minutes... and from there it was all downhill.

I just came to accept it.

In devices I have had two battery issues:

1) Devour camera hung open in background (took a reset)

2) Ally Socialite steady flowing 3g until phone was dead (required dropping Socialite which may be fixed now)

If you have reset and the OS is eating that much you may wanna take it to a corporate store....They are all under a year cause they havent been out that long.... On the 2.2 most people show the display at 50% or more and the rest under 10%.....
