So I was thinking about getting a blackberry and sell my Hero. I love android and I say its possibly the best system out there right now but the battery life is killing me and I hate the fact that I have to be baby sitting my phone so it doesn't die. I heard the other day the blackberry has the same issue. Is that true? Is it worse than android?

A slab of touchscreen running a java based OS will use a lot of power, but it's not terrible battery life, you can optimise it a lot to conserve battery.

There are also larger aftermarket batteries you can buy for your phone, that hold twice as much or more charge. You have to be careful though, some are cheaply made, and others won't be what they say on the packet, due to manufacturing tolerances. HTC make their batteries within a high tolerance of the stated capacity, but other companies might not, so a larger battery might end up having less charge than your current one.

I have had a Bold, Pearl, and Tour. All had amazing batt life. But that is cause they cant do nearly as much as my incredible is... BB OS is pretty archaic at this point too. Once I used a different web browser I could never go back. Looking back, i don't know how I dealt with it so long.

Not worth it. I don't know what you use your phone for, but if you like apps- you aren't getting them with BB. I had my curve and there was such a shortage of quality apps. Not to mention, if you want free apps- you're out of luck. Same with games. Those phones were built for business use. Hell, I've seen the OS6 and it's the same crap on top of low end hardware again.

Take it from me, I've owned one. They look cool and the keyboards are the bomb- but the reality is you will spend more time battery pulling and waiting for your phone to catch up to you that you're not gonna get anything done.

If you like the form factor of the BB Torch and want to try something other than Android, try the Pre. Yes, it's a bit dated now but the OS is so fluid and nice.

Personally, I would just stay with Android and I'm not even saying that as some crazy fan.

I had a storm for the longest I recently switched to the incredible and I babysit the hell out of my Droid I feel like get.more for my money when browsing the net. Blackberries just don't cut it plus they trnd to freeze up. So if you like battery pulling your phone more often than not then the bb is for you. But I'll stick with my HTC

I love WebOS, but if battery life is your concern you should absolutely NOT use the Pre. Horrible, horrible, abysmal battery life on the Pre. Wayyy worse than the Hero. BlackBerry's are good for many things, but they're very dated. The battery life is awesome though.

I had a BB for a few years and loved it. When it was time for an upgrade, I went for an Android. I didnt like the virtual keyboard or the battery drain, but the rest made it great - the apps, the touch responsiveness, screen size, the graphics, the camera, the browser, etc.

When the BB Torch came out, I exchanged my Android. I am on the fence now. Yes, I like the real keyboard and the longer battery life, but I miss everything else about the Android. I dont know what to so - keep the BB or exchange it back to my previous Android. Hands down - I can type faster on the BB and I use my email a lot for work. I'm torn! I dont know what to do!

Having been a former blackberry user, the 8900 does fine on battery but is only 2g and is horrible if you like browsing the internet. The 8530 is a 3G phone, about the same battery life as my hero and still doesn't browse the internet worth a crap although better than the 8900. The blackberry torch is out now with a new operating system, better browser and it is touchscreen and has a physical keyboard. I hear battery life is pretty sucky too. I like blackberry mostly. What I miss is the great organizational apps. It COMES with a notepad and task app that integrates with the calendar. But I like android, it's just more fun.

You sound like me. When I switched to cellular south, I started with a hero but had a tough time with virtual keyboard. Afraid I'd never master it, I traded it in for a blackberry. But I missed the hero and the touch screen and the fun of it. So I bought a hero outright. Still have the bb 8530 and sometimes, I still hear it calling. If 9800 wasn't on at&t which doesn't do well in my area, I'd have one in a flash. I'm hoping someday it will come to cellular south. I loved my blackberry but I love my hero. Guess that makes me fickle.

I went to play with the torch today at a at&t store, I was really excited until i saw it was just a dummy. Its a lot bigger than I thought it was though. If you say the battery life sucks on it though, then forget it. But I still say Android needs a blackberry looking phone, AND FIX THE BATTERY LIFE PLEASSSSEEE!!!
