Desire boot up

Firstly apologies if this is covered elsewhere, didn't see it.
When i turned on my desire this morning i accidently pressed one or both of the up down arrows and this brought up what looked like a mini sub menu but the writing was so small i could barely make out what it said.
Any ideas?

you loaded up the bootloader, nothing major just turn it off and on again, you pressed volume down, if you would have pressed the back key whilst powering up you would load in recovery mode, also not a big deal

Suppose it is a bit like the boot options for a pc then.
