Root Legal Matters Regard LG Electronics Source Code

hey guys below is the email i sent to the Google Legal Department regarding LG's refusal to release the source code for the Ally, i have been trying to get this from them for over a month and they keep telling me its proprietary which is just BS. so i finally advised them i was contacting Google. i did send them a CC of the email, hopefully this will convince them to stop playing hard ball with the Dev community because we bite back just as hard if not harder.

below is a copy of the email i sent them:

hello,
i am contacting you (Google) in regards too a violation of the GPL
Agreement, LG Electronics, who is a manufacturer of several android
based phones, is refusing to release the source code of their android
based phones, i have contacted them several times regarding the issue
and even advised that that under the GPL Licensing Agreement they are
required to share any modifications to the android source code with
the community. their response to the issue is "the source code is
proprietary information".

I speak for the entire development community when i say we are
outraged at the manner in which LGE is treating us and running us in
circles. We (the Development Community) would be very grateful with
any assistance Google can provide us in regards too this manner.

Personally I dont believe Google will get involved because the person that will be receiving this letter (if it read at all) just wont have enough power to do anything. I really hope it works but I know that Google is kind of crappy when it comes to communication with consumers

ya i know what ya mean. i am just going to keep my fingers crossed. and hopefully this will scare LG into releasing the information, considering they could loose their usage rights to Android because of it :)....
btw i actually have a fairly decent understanding of Patent Law thats why i am going pursue the matter.

Im all about some sticking it to the man LOL. But seriously, i hope this works out, the ally could be alot better if we was given this info to make our own changes to the system.

Yeah dev's that do it for fun always do a better job than those that get $100+ per hour. Can you tell me where you found an email to send it too? I think you should try posting this on the official google android forum too, it wont hurt

wow, you guys kick ass. i started this long process a little over 3 weeks ago and have been watching this forum ever since. and thanks to the great info i started with no knowledge of any of this stuff and have successfully rooted my ally, and flashed roms with no problems. cant wait to see what you guys come up with.

were all hoping for 2 things here, 1 mainly, FroYo is what we all want, but overclocking wouldn't hurt anyone either

What's the version of this kernel source? If it's not 2.6.32, it's not what ships with Froyo. Just because you have the kernel source for the 2.1 kernel, doesn't mean you can has Froyo :p. But still, this is a big step. Can anyone say undervolt for battery life, or overclock for speed? TUN driver built in, or WAP support for wireless tether? All that stuff is quite possible once you have a good, buildable copy of the source..
