Hey,

It's coming time for me to purcase a new phone and the X10 has caught my eye.

There are a few things I would like to know before I make the jump to buying one.

1, The Timescape feature seems to be a big drain on the phones performance, as I don't use social networking sites frequently, is there any way to disable it completely? Or just have it display calls and texts? - Semi Answered

2, I have heard nothing good about the keyboard although I have seen it replaced with different versions. How easy is it to do this and what keyboard is reccomended as a replacement?

3, Is it possible to customise other parts of the phone in the same manner? If so, how easy is it to do so?

4, I see that it is running an outdated version of Android. Is this a big problem? Is is possible to update to the newer version? - Answered

5, How good is the media player? Apart from texts and calls, the main thing I use my phone for is music. My current phone is the W980, so I'm used to the walkman. How does it compare? - Answered

6, Games are an important part of the phone experience for me, how does the X10 stand up in this area? - Answered

7, Battey life. I use my phone fairly regularly over the day, charging every night, will the X10 last a whole day of use? - Answered

Thanks for taking the time to read this, extra thanks if you have any answers. :D

There are two things I can address for you. I have only had the phone two days now but I am a total geek and have already rooted and debranded it (loaded a generic rom).

The social media aspect of this phone can be completely ignored. You just don't have to use it at all.

The media player is better than anything I have seen on Android to date. The companion PC software is also incredibly good.

If you are a gamer and you need that on your phone, than you can forget about the X10! It does NOT have a Multi-Touch screen. So all of those games that require screen usage, you will not be able to play! This is one of the BIGGEST distractors of the phone in my book! Not to mention it is 1.6 Android. The Samsung Galaxy S phones, Vibrant for TMobile, Captivate for AT&T and Verzion and Sprint will have a version as well. These phones have the best CPU and GPU out there, except maybe for the iPhone 4. Watch a YouTube comparison and you will see the screens blow away the competition on each and every time they are compared. Plus they have 16GB of internal memory and than you can add a micorsd card ontop of that! Add also that they have the best on screen keyboards! Have you heard of SWYPE?? Free and include with the Galaxy S phones!

From what you wrote, the Captivate or one of its brothers is your cup of tea...

Good Luck!

What exactly do you want to modify, then prehaps we can give you more specific answers.

I am not a techie person so the rooting thing is a bit out of my comfort zone but I have changed the launcher to ADW Launcher... gives you up to seven screens to do your thang on and there are loads of skins to overlay it with. Got Handcent SMS on there which is more like the iphone threaded speech bubble style, got HTC_IME Mod keyboard which is the skinned version (chap called Gimpsta over on XDA developers developed it) you can choose the colours/fonts of your keyboard which is pretty cool. Got Beautiful Widget on there which gives you clock/date/weather which then lets you access alarm/calander and 5 day weather forecast with cute graphics like raining or clouds floating across the screen.

Basically the android market is at your disposal - yes you can't yet access the 2.1 stuff but blimey I have only probably got about 0.0001% of the market available for the 1.6 version on my phone - how much more choice do you need to start off with.
