Im a bit confused on the hotspot feature of froyo. If it will do what i need it to then ill probably root and install it tonite lol

Basically i have an open wifi signal at my home. I can use it for my pc and phone but my PS3 wont get a strong enough signal.

With froyo installed can i use that open wifi signal and rebroadcast it to the PS3 ?? Basically itd be a repeater.

I am not interested in try to play over 3g and i dont want to pay for anything lol

Sorry, but I don't think anyone will help you out here. Using a wi-fi signal that does not belong to you is not cool, even if they do leave it open and unsecured.

I looked into it years ago and i believe legally, any open unsecured network is considered a public access point. I am also surrounded by hotels on 3 sides and im pretty sure thats where its comming from.

Damn, had my hopes up.. maybe time to rearrange the living room.

You should be able to use most wireless routers as wireless access points (what you're talking about). With the owners permission of course. ;)

Used wifi g routers are very cheap, and even new ones would be inexpensive ( < internet bil for a month).

Just an fyi... My husband works for and installs wireless internet in businesses and any signal that is not pw protected and secure, is in fact an open network. I'm not saying for everyone to go out and use it, but it isn't illegal to "piggyback" as they call it. It's rude and still theft to me, but in the eyes of the law and the internet companies it's not their problem if you don't secure your network.
