How did you get your Evo?

Second day after release. We were at a Sprint store to get my wifes Blackberry replaced. I was available for an upgrade and someone didn't pick theirs up on time so they gave it to me. That phone crapped out (battery only lasted about 4 hours max, with everything off, got hot to the touch), had to have it replaced, took like two weeks and alot of bitching by me! Have had ZERO problems with the new phone.....love it.

$469 New. No Contract.

brand new (no tax, no contract, no bill. free 3 day shipping) from Sprint on Amazon a week after the evo launched.

I suspected the add was a typo but 'added to cart' anyway. Sure enough they yanked the add as soon as I got my email confirmation.

wifi's my data.
google voice is my free phone number host and sms text app/service
nimbuzz is my free voice plan
google nav's my free turn by turn.

I can do everything but the "sprint" stuff (football and nascar and stuff) but who cares, right?

I started my LONG and dreadful ass search Jul 5th when my upgrade was pushed up from May 2011 to July 2010 (another story) and by that time Sprint online was sold out and I called 2 or 3 Sprint stores for the next few weeks. Starting around the end of July I was calling 14-15 stores every week all telling me they were out and some asked if I wanted to be on a waiting list consisting of 80-90 people. UGH!!

So on Aug 5th I checked Sprint.com, sold out, and I did my regular routine of calling 10 stores ect and on the 9th store I called they said "wait a min" then said SOLD OUT and if I wanted to be on the list I would be #93. I said **** off ;), and I called the LAST STORE on my list and they had TWO in stock and I raced over there (Ft. Worth) and picked that bitch up! I told the lady my horror stories and she told me since they weren't considered a "large volume" store they always kept a few in stock. I AM SO DAMN HAPPY I HAVE IT! :D :D

I got lucky and got a pretty good deal in the process. I found a deal at studentrate.com for (I think) 15% off mo. bill + two credits for $75. (I am a college student .... Master's Candidate) But you have to purchase through Sprint.com for that to work. Which was no go.

So, I took the offer to the Sprint store, and asked if they'd match it. The guy said, "no" and my heart sank. Then he said, "But how about this: 25% off mo. bill, and $25 off the phone."
I decided that was a better deal anyway, so I got on the waiting list. Next day, I decided to try to get on a few more lists, so I went to another Sprint store and got put on their list (still haven't heard from them in 3 weeks). Then I went to yet another Sprint store and asked if they had any Evo's. And they did.

But some kid was humming and haa'ing about if he wanted it. He left the store to think about it (and I think, ask his Mom for some money). So I told the salesman that I'd take it if the kid didn't.

10 min later, I got a call from the first store where I went the day before. They had one for me. Immediately when I hung up my dying iPhone, I got a call from the last store, whose parking lot I was leaving to pick up my new phone. They guy wanted to know if I'd be a new or existing customer. He said I could have the phone if I wanted, but I was already on my way to the 1st store.

Now, about 3 weeks later, and I just sold my jailbroken and unlocked 16gb iphone for $210 on ebay. And sent in my rebate form. So, I'm making $ on the deal, and my monthly bills are going to be quite a bit cheaper (at least $10).

Turns out the discount they are giving me isn't even a student discount, but is labeled as AOL employee's discount. Hmmm.

AWESOME experience so far!!!

It was a case of being in the right place at the right time for me! I had been calling every sprint store, both best buys and was on a waiting list at atleast 2 radio shacks maybe more can't remember.... and was repeatedly told they didnt have any and didn't know when they would get in. Went to best buy to look at something else and my husband decided to stop and harrass the mobile guys and see what he could get out of it. Well he walked away with nothing, 5 minutes later the best buy mobile guy tracked us down in the store to tell us some one on his waiting list just cancelled his reservation and that we could have it!!! So thats how I got mine, YESSSSSSSSS!! That was 2 weeks ago and I absolutly love it, came from a hero.

I got my evo about 2 weeks ago. I got super lucky. I had been looking into getting a evo for while, my Co-worker has a HTC hero. Finally said I was ready to get one. My Co-worker for kicks calls a sprint store and asked if they had any. Said they getting thier shippment in today. We went in around lunch only had 1 left. Filled the paperwork out and as I was the guy helping pointed to a woman in the store, said she had been coming for week trying to get a evo. I ended getting the last one the store had. I was lucky happy customer.

I initially went to the Sprint store closest to me and they were out. (This was a Friday) They said to call/come back on Wednesday when they get a shipment came in. I called an hour after they opened and they were all out (reservations I guess) So I was calling around. I called a Sprint store a little farther from me and they had it. ONE that is. So I called BestBuy and they had alot of white ones in stock and said it should be no problem. (This was July 7, when in reality they weren't supposed to be out until that weekend. I had my choice and went to the Sprint store and picked it up no problem. Been in love ever since that day!!!

Pre-ordered mine, and waited outside Best Buy (sugar land) for more than an hour and a half (sadly I'm the only one so I looked like a geek who couldn't wait for the evo). I had my spare Sedio 1750 mAh battery already charged so I can play with the evo as soon as I got it. I was the first one who got the phone on that store.

Wife got tired of paying lots for so little with Verizon so we switched to Sprint. Went to store and asked did they have Evo and he said depends on if you are new or upgrading and I said new and they said we only have them for new people for now. I said wow lol, so you all are stashing them. I got It but still wondering whats the difference between my 199.99 and a existing customers who is eligible for an upgrade 199.99

Whooo...where do I begin?

May 28
I realized that bills need to be paid, so I sadly decided not to pick up an EVO on June 4th. (didn't bother to Pre-order, obviously)

June 2nd
Out of sheer curiosity I head over to "A Store" to inquire about the EVO and stare longingly at a demo model(if any). I then meet "Pete", who spends about an hour with me chatting away about random phone stuff. Not to sound egotistical, but I noticed Pete was giving me the..look. Pete also gives me his business card on which he has scratched out the corporate # and replaced it with his cell. (umm...yea...ok)

June 3rd(Day before Launch)
My Blackberry which was riding the fail whale already, went batshit and died on me. Clearly I had no choice, but to replace my phone...heh heh BILLS BE DAMNED!! mind you I'm under the impression I can get the EVO for $199. So I call Pete and tell him the bad/good news and he tells me that I'm NOT eligible for the lower price AND all of the EVOs they have are spoken for, no dice.

Later that day, I received a text...come that Friday, leave your Blackberry and pick up your EVO
Of course I call him and say "what do you mean, aren't they all taken? Didn't people put money down for them? I haven't even pre-ordered!!"
All he is says is "see you Friday".

SO that Friday as I watched scores of disappointed people leaving the store EVO-less...I watched Pete as he activated mine, in between giving me googly eyes. I still questioned Pete's motivation for going the extra mile for me, but that soon disappeared when I took off my sunglasses giving him a full view of my face. "Ahhh Girls and Summertime, love it" he said and slid my Evo over to me.

Not only did Pete do something else amazing for me(which I won't say, because it sounds a bit out the company standards IMHO), he also gave me a flawless EVO. No Glass lifting, No light leakage, No Bricking with the 1st update or battery issues:)

Well, looks like I got one pretty easily. I called up the Sprint store this morning to see if they could hold me one for Thursday when my contract runs out with ATT. They told me they couldn't hold phones for anyone, but that they just got in a shipment this morning and that I could come down and buy one and set up a contract, give me a temporary number, and then on Thursday they would switch over my original number from ATT.

I asked if I could stop by after I got off work around 6, and he said that they would probably be sold out by 12. So I rushed to finish the rest of my deliveries before lunch and I called again to make sure they had some, and told me that there were only a few left and there were a lot of people in the store so he couldn't promise me anything. I got there about 10 minutes later, asked the guy if there were any left. He said he didn't think so, but went in back and double checked for me. Lucky me...I got the very last one they had. I was so happy :) Haven't been able to put the thing down since lol
