Gesture Search is a battery hog when set for flip to open

Gesture Search (by Google) is a battery hog. My Seidio 1750 battery (a replacement and brand new) was draining a lot quicker than the one it was exchanged for, so after having it on for most of the day I decided to see what was causing the drain.

Gesture Search used the most battery out of all of the processes and it had the least amount of actual use. With my battery at around 70% after 12 hours (not much actual use today), Gesture Search had 47% of the battery use (the next highest being cell standby at 17%) and the actual time it was in use was 1m38s.

I don't know why that would be except that it has to always be running in the background (when setup for flip to open) and that maybe the cause of the battery drain. I'm going to set it to only open from the application shortcut and see if that alleviates the excessive battery drain. I'll let you know what I find. Just an FYI.

I think it has more to do with constantly waiting input as well as indexing.

I tried the flip-to-open when they first implemented it about a week ago and had similar results, though I never saw its battery usage that much higher than Standby.

Disabling flip-to-open did take care of the problem. But there have been at least one or two more updates since then, so I was hoping they had it fixed... I guess not.

Yes, that is exactly what my theory is (always on waiting for the flip to open to be used). I switched it off last night and today it does not even register in the battery usage screen. Part of the reason maybe because I opened it by accident a couple of times (even with it set to difficult to open).

Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if the flip to open was enabled but if you were very careful to not activate it. But since it has to be ready to open by way of a wrist flick, it will more than likely use more battery than if flip to open was disabled. It is a cool option, but I'd take battery and pressing an application shortcut over that.

That's kinda how I felt too. When I first installed it, I couldn't get it to work unless it was set to most sensitive (easiest to trigger), then it started activating without even really trying so I set it to least sensitive and it pretty acted like it did on most sensitive. Kinda like if I wanted to activate I had a bear of a time, but if I was just talking on speakerphone or something, it would come on easily. So I just left the flick to open disabled.
