Best E-Mail app for Hotmail???

Hi everyone,

Basically I want to know what the best app for accessing your hotmail account is.

I used to use the default HTC mail app on my HTC Desire, but it only polls/pulls email every 15minutes via POP3. Also even after deleting the emails in the app, they would still remain in the Webmail inbox

I then moved onto SeVen, this apparently offered some 'push' facility but all I found is that e-mails would arrive 40minutes late and it would drain the hell out of my battery.

MailDroid/K9 Mail seem promising, haven't been able to distinguish much between them but K9 looks better (on a side note, can IMAP idle be used for hotmail or not?).

Basically I need these functions:

1. E-mails arriving no more than 15minutes later than originally sent
2. When I have read an email on my phone, it should be automatically marked read on my webmail
3. Deleting an email from my phone should result in it being deleted from my webmail too

Can any app do these 3 basic tasks? So far I haven't had much success.

If you want all the above, it is not possible with any application and you must use webmail. Let me answer a few questions that you asked, but start with an explanation.

Hotmail supports two protocols: POP and Deltasync. POP3 is an open protocol and Deltasync is a closed protocol that Microsoft has not released (but does support everything you want and more). In short, your only choice with K9/MailDroid or any other application is to use POP3. Having said that:

1. POP3 does not support Push
2. POP3 does not support showing folders other than your Inbox
3. POP3 does not support marking as read/unread
4. POP3 does not support flagging an email

Now to your questions:

1. Both MD and K9 support a polling interval.
2. Having explained above, this is not possible.
3. This is supported in MD, I can't say if it is supported in k9.

I was having the same problem with finding a decent email app. After some experimenting I gave up and found this Use GMAIL as a push server . Doesnt quite do all you ask in the opening post, but for me its the best compromise.

With 2.2 it will support full hotmail sync (calendar, contacts, email, etc) as it does with an Exchange server (Hotmail is just now rolling out this ability):

True, if it rolls out to everyone. They are starting and stopping it constantly.
