Help Home Button Flicker

I have an interesting home button flicker issue. It works fine probably 90% of the time, but sometimes, I'll long press to get the recent apps popup, and the haptic feedback flickers five or six times and the screen pauses for a second and then goes nuts, going to the home screen, then to the default home screen, then to the expanded home screen view, then back to the default home screen, etc.

Has anyone else seen anything like this?
Is this a firmware issue, or a hardware issue, do you think?

I think that is the lag issue Not sure though.
I have had it a couple of times on mine. Usually when I exit some app and end up on the home screen, then i long press the home button for the 6 last app pop up, and some hiccup happens. I believe it is because that app I exited, is still being exited in the background (lag with the app registry database slow memory), and although I am presented with the home screen, my touches are not being registered yet, and then when the lag resolves itself, multiple touches get retroactively registered.
If i give it a few seconds before major actions, this issue does not happen.

Yeah I've had this happen and described it in a thread somewhere.

Really seems related to lag... trying to press the soft buttons while the device is stalled doing other things causes a whole series of inputs to be "queued" up and then suddenly unleashed at once when it becomes responsive again.

my friend has this same issue, its pretty funny to watch. IMO it is a specific phone defect and not just lag. I also have a captivate and have NEVER seen this issue. I love watching is home screen go nuts. I say replace the phone, but I could be wrong

You're not wrong, it is a phone defect but a rare one at that. Get a new Captivate, I did and my new one has not done it once.

Well my phone gradually got worse from doing it once every other day to 7 times within 4 hours one morning, that morning is when I decided to go exchange for a new one.

So we'll see if he wants to be lazy then.

Mine is having the same issue, however, I've found a way to make it less frequent and less annoying. It's not a permanent solution but try this:

1) First of all, when you hit the on/off button to unlock the phone, wait about 3 seconds before you enter your code or swipe your finger. I think part of it has to do with too many fast processes.

2) Once you're on the home screen, go to Preferences > Behavior Settings > Home Key Action. Set to Do Nothing. This will prevent home screens cycling.

Let me know if anyone has a better solution. I bought mine on Ebay so I can't take it back to AT&T for an exchange.
