Help Froyo 2.2 now includes VZ Nav. Why use it when there is what looks like a free Google Nav free?

What am I missing/ Version 21 had good based Nav that to me worked ok. This new update has Vz Nav, a $9.99 month service.

Why would anyone ever want to pay 9.95 for what is usually free? What am I missing? Gotta figure out this update.

I'm kind of confused by this as well. Some people say VZNav works better for them, but I've never had a single problem with Google Maps/Nav. In fact, it's one of my favorite things about the Android OS.

I wish VZW wouldn't force their apps on us. I'm a root user and I've learned my way around the phone pretty well so I can get rid of them... But some people aren't into modding their phones like I have and they're stuck with all that crap cluttering their phones and taking up valuable memory.

Long story short, if Maps/Nav is working for you, either remove VZNav or ignore it and keep rolling like you have been.

My question exactly. Why doesn't Verizon figure that out. I've been extremely impressed with the Google Nav (now that the voice is slowed down! )

Another question along these lines, but whats the difference between the Google Nav for directions, and the Maps for directions and then the maps inside of the Car Panel widget??? Once you get in, are they the same? There seems to be a lot of duplicity. I don't need all 3, and each has their own little extras, but not enough for me to think I need 3 different Nav apps!

Yes, VZ is a business, but why force people to keep apps they don't want? Installing them is one thing, but making them unremovable is quite another. It is the inability to remove them that I find offensive. Clutters the phone needlessly. Doesn't seem like a smart business move?

Can they be hidden?

In order to remove vz nav you need to be rooted. It is easy to then unistall using titanium backup. I removed all bloatware this way!

I agree that it's annoying, but the big question for Verizon is: Will having bloatware stop anyone from buying their phones? Even if it does, would the lost money from those few people balance out the additional money they get from packing in applications that nobody wants? I find bloatware to be infuriating and the thought that CityID takes up resources on the phone that could otherwise be used by something I actually care about drives me up the wall. That's why when I finally get 2.2, I'll look into rooting the phone and making it what *I* want. In reality, though, Verizon wants to make money and if they feel that packing in software and being totally disingenuous by calling it a "feature" will add to their revenue, they will. Jerks.

As for hiding the applications, if you use a different launcher like LauncherPro or ADW Launcher, both allow you to hide applications from the app drawer.

Way beyond my knowledge. Too great a risk I'd brick the phone, as I have no idea what to do if (when?)something goes awry. Don't know what a "titanium backup" is, either.

Verizon is a money making venture. They're probably hoping people don't like Google Maps or still use VZ navigator on their phones if they made a switch to Android. Or they are preying on idiots who don't realize Google maps and Nav are FREE
