Initial Setup:
Very neat boot ani, takes 2-3 mins to fully load. Market uploaded all but 6 apps, and did so in about a half hour. No issues on install.

Appearance:
Pretty much the stock look until you install a diff theme. I used stewart1champ's Watermark'd theme, and other than the black font on black background in the notification pull down bar, there weren't any issues. I would have liked the LauncherPro icons to have themed, but being as this ROM comes with Launcher2 or ADW only, I'm not sure that's possible. More of a theme thing, anyway.

A bug that has been mentioned on here is with the wallpapers. I've experienced the same. When you go to the Wallpapers section, CM has added their own section, and those work and interchange fine. However, when I tried to use a wallpaper from my Gallery, it wouldn't change. So I tried to change again and it went back to a previous CM wallpaper I had used. Inserting into the charging dock gave me my intended wallpaper back, but again couldn't change on the next time. Restarting LauncherPro also achieved this. However, the lockscreen is still the previous wallpaper.

Performance and Goodies:
I've stated in the past how ROMs that have such tremendous customizations seem to not have the same speed capabilities as other ROMs, but this build of CM is doing it's best to shed that. I've experience absolutely no lag with ROM whatsoever, first and foremost. And the overall performance is on par with other rather speedy ROMs. My highest Quadrant score was a 1646 using slayher's 1.2GHz kernel (set at 1.1, still can't run Quadrant at 1.2GHz, but is otherwise stable). My short benches at 1.2 had a low 153 and a long of 418. But don't sleep on the stock kernel, which seemed very capable and fluid at 800MHz. Overall, this performance of this ROM is near peak for my Droid. Very few ROMs have ever been smoother.

Goodies, well, c'mon, this is CyanogenMod. You have more wallpapers, CM settings in your Settings menu, the ability to reboot and boot into recovery or into the bootloader, change music from the volume rocker, compcache, JIT on/off, and keeping home in memory (def helps with redraws). There's more, but you really need to see for yourself if you've never ran a CM ROM.

App and System Function:
Some have reported WiFi issues, which I haven't experienced. Market can be slow at times, but it does work. GPS works fine as well. I noticed this morning that my Word of the Day widget was FCing, which I was going to attribute to the ROM as there wasn't an update. Then I played with my g/f's Droid Incredible (which just received the update to 2.2), and she had the same issue. The prob seems to have been taken care of as it no longer exists.

Battery life, well, I'm not entirely sure about. It runs cool, that's no issue. But I haven't been getting exactly great life. If I'm not messing with my Droid, the battery life is great. But I was doing a lot of internet surfing the past couple days on it, and it seems to drain the battery very fast. I do feel normal use could get me threw the day, but I have charged it 3 times already today. The slayher kernel is probably the biggest culprit, though. If you have a diff go-to kernel, then you're results will most likely vary.

Overview:
This has been the best combination of speed and extras I've seen yet. I've used CM in the past and have never been overly impressed with it's speed, but this ROM is on par with some of the fastest out there. And it's well known what you get when it comes to goodies. However, the wallpaper issue will probably prove annoying, but it can be worked around. And the battery life could def be better. Everything else, comes down to your own personal preference.

Just 4/5, and with such good review

What would it take to make it 5/5?

Ok, I've never used a CM ROM before, but i'm VERY pleased with this one. I do have a quick question though...I've looked a bit, but can't find options for JIT and compcache that you mentioned above.
Where do I find those customizations??
Thanks! Nice review :)

Settings/CyanogenMod settings/Performance Settings

You'll get a "Warning! Dragons ahead" when you get there! Hope that helped.

Just loaded this up last night (wiped data and cache). I've been a BB guy in the past and more recently I tried the Smoked Glass Charity FRG22 roms.

I switched to CM because I had been getting really bad screen redraws on Launcher Pro. When I checked my memory, Touchdown Exchange was taking up 25MB. The only thing keeping me from using Froyo's built-in exchange synch was the fact that Froyo does not receive push email to subfolders (you have to manually check for new mail in subfolders). CM has been modded to check subfolders so I made the switch.

Anyway, I love all of the little extras (like the power strip, reboot options, modded email, etc...). Home screen redraws have been drastically reduced and things feel smooth so far.

I haven't had the wallpaper issue yet, but the Google Finance widget does not work. It FC's and shows "Loading Ticker..." all day.
Do you know of a way to stop the pushing of sub folders. I have an account, that I don't want the sub-folders pushed on.

Thanks

Thanks, I try to get to the stuff people care about. I hope burntorangefan answered your question enough. Just be careful with what you tweak and just make a mental note of what you change in case you get an undesirable result.

I believe that in CM6 the subfolders do not get push updates by default. I had to go to each folder and manually turn it on. You have to long press the folder for options (Refresh, Toggle Sync, Toggle Visibility). These options are not available in standard Froyo.

i might have thanked you too early. long pressing on the folder names doesn't give me those options. :(

Review - CyanogenMod 6

Installation & Setup
I flashed this over the CM6 RC3 I already had set up. I did not wipe, and everything has been great! No FCs, no issues…except one. I can’t seem to be able to dial via Bluetooth. I had this same issue with LFY 1.5 so I don’t know what to think of it. Regardless, the bug is there and I hate it! Other than that, set up was fast and easy. I’ve used Bluetooth and navigation, both worked, my market works fine, everything is running as it should.

Speed & Performance

This is the best build of CM, performance wise, that I have ever used! That’s not saying a ton, but it is a welcomed surprised. Transitions are smooth, nearly every operation is faster than I expected, with exception to going to the home screen. I do have more screen redraws than I’ve had in a long time; that is a little disheartening. I loathe screen redraw . There is also the occasional hiccup such as bringing down the notification bar and it randomly deciding it wants to go back up. Or sometimes I’ll open Handcent and it randomly decides to close. Small hiccups, but hiccups nonetheless. I should also mention that I have been using a CM wallpaper, so I have not seen the wallpaper bug. Unfortunately, I flashed the P3 1100LV kernel without even thinking about it, so I did not get to test the stock kernel. Sorry, I must be slippin’. But I do have some good news. I was unimpressed with battery life on RC3 and RC2, but CM6 seems to have improved this. In the previous two builds, I had to charge my phone at least once per day mid-day. I’ve been running this all week and have not plugged into a wall during work once. Now I’m not saying the battery life is spectacular, but it’s a huge improvement. So much so that it is not an issue that I worry about daily (I did on the previous RCs). I’m running the P3 1100LV at 900MHz on Performance. I am satisfied with the speed and performance of this build; I would give it an overall 4/5.

P3 1100LV Kernel
Short: 183
Long: 465
Quadrant: 1518

Features
I haven’t noticed any features that I have not seen in any of the RCs, so I am copy/pasting my previous “features” reviews from RC2 and RC3. For those familiar with CM or those following development, there will be nothing new here. For those unfamiliar, I think the following will cover nearly every feature CM has.

RC2 Features

Most of you are aware of many of the CM features but I’ll cover them briefly. REBOOT is an option when holding the on/off button. CM now comes with its own SETTINGS MENU allowing you do things like change all the colors in the notification bar, increase performance, move to next music track or previous by holding up or down on the volume buttons, move apps to SD card, MUSIC CONTROL ON THE LOCKSCREEN (I love this!), tweaks to haptic feedback, and 360 degree screen rotation. There also options in the Call Settings to do things like vibrate when call has begun and ended, and turn the phone over to silence ringer. There has also been a change to the power control widget. You can now control your 3G connection! I have not tested this for battery savings but it does have potential. There are probably more, CM comes packed with great features!

RC3 Features
This baby is feature packed (of course) and does add some features not available in RC2. Some of those features are lock home in memory, compcache, a ton of options for the power widget, LED notifications (and the option to force LED while screen is on), and the option to change the color of the notification bar and pulldown shade. The features CM6 offers are second to none

Themes
Since this is the official release (Yaay! :D) the themes are a comin’! There are at least 10 themes available right now with more on the way. IMO, the best place to find themes is right here. Watermark’d is still my favorite!

Conclusion
CM6 is a very good rom. It has more features than a brand new Mercedes and rides almost as smooth. There are roms that have better performance but considering the number of features this baby has, I’m actually surprised it runs as nice as it does. Installation was easy as it should be. Battery life is pretty good and there are lots of themes to choose from. There are some small hiccups in performance but nothing that is a deal breaker. If extra features are your forte, I absolutely suggest giving this bad boy a test drive. I’m giving this rom a 4.5/5, it receives a .5 point deduction for some performance inconsistencies.

Overall Rating: 4.5/5

Been running CM6 now since it came out and I would say best ROM to date for me personally. One gripe I mentioned early was GPS. I have tried restarting and removing the battery but the GPS still takes several minutes (sometimes over 5 minutes) to locate. I've never had a problem like this on any other previous ROMs (including RC3) as well as stock. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, this is my experience also. EXCEPT for BBv.4. Try that ROM.

Why do I keep going back to other ROMS like CM and what not? The features ! Honestly though, my fav rom is still Pete's BB v0.4...mmmmm stable.

Oh, one last thing. The "Keep Home" setting? Duu it. It helps the annoying screen redraw. It really actually helped me! The only gripe I had with CM is the many Force Closes. It just wasnt very stable. If this version is truly stable and I can get Revolution theme on it with Smoked Glass widgets, then Im sold.
I can't wait for the triumphant return of PETE!!!! Besides Sapphire, no Rom has even come close to BBv.4

I've been using this all week now and I must say I'm very disappointed. The more I use it, the worse it gets. The launcher is TERRIBLE. I get 3-4 FC's on it daily. The lag on it is the worst I've seen with any rom. And I've been getting more FC's in general with this than any other rom. Back to Sapphire.

I've noticed that most ROMs recently have a tendency to deteriorate, at least for me. On the first day, I could leave SetCPU at 125-600 and it'll run completely smoothly with no stuttering at all, but a week later, it's stuttering even if I ramp it up to 125-1000.

I've enjoyed Pete's ROMs, but today I received the official VZW update again despite flashing Pete's patch the first time I got the update request 3 weeks ago. Since I despise the possibility of repeatedly having to deal with the official updates, I'm giving CM6 another go (tried RC1 earlier).

As for Launcher issues, have you removed all widgets and shortcuts from the launchers you are not using? I've had battery problems in the past when I switched launchers but left the others ones with widgets effectively running in the background. Nowadays I typically uninstall unused launchers through TiBu to be safe.
