Root Rooted. Phone shuts down whenever using GPS.

Hallo.
I recently rooted a 2.2 stock phone, using the XDA method (clockwork).

Everything seems to work fine, except for two things:

BIG THING:

Whenever I try to use the GPS function on my phone the phone just shuts off and restarts. (this is when I use the GPS satellites function. NOT when I use the "use wireless networks" setting under the Location sub-section of settings)

E.g. When I turn on GPS and try to get "my location" in google maps. It restarts. When I use Yelp it turns off.

SMALL thing:

The wifi tether is decent but it often stops working (I used the google one). I.e. The computer that's connected to the wireless network either gets disconnected, or it thinks it's disconnected but the internet just doesn't work.

At this point, I just simply shut the tether on and off. But it's slightly inconvenient. Is this an issue other people are having?

Hmm...the GPS thing I haven't seen (it might be common, I haven't looked).
My suggestion there is to try a few other apps that use GPS.

The wifi tether...which version are you running? I have seen issues with that. I am on pre8 as of now...seems ok.

You rooted stock 2.2? Meaning you downgraded to root? What 2.2 rom did you use after that? More details on what you did after the root...only because I and many others never lost root so don't probably know what you dealt with.

GPS thing. Same issue when accessing GPS function on: Yelp, Google Maps, Google stars.

Wifi tether: 2.0.5-pre8, GNU General publice license v3

Stock 2.1 --> Sprint-version of Froyo 2.2 --> XDA root process --> 2.2 now (XDA process for rooting)

My phone was a stock 2.1. I did the Sprint upgrade to 2.2. And then I followed the XDA guide for how to root a 2.2: [GUIDE] How to root Android 2.2 on the EVO 4G - xda-developers

I used the update zip with clockwork mod recovery zip included.
Here's the link: http://evo4g.me/downloads//count.php?target=Part-2_evo-root_clockworkmod.zip

It's also within the XDA guide.

My EVO is not rooted, but after installing "WeatherBug", any app that tried to use the GPS would generate an FC on the app, including Latitude, and Sprint Navigator. I uninstalled WeatherBug and all problems stopped (I had told WB not to use the GPS to find my position....apparently it ignores the setting). If the phone wasn't rooted, I believe ill-behaving apps stop at the FC...otherwise, wider spread corruption to the OS could result. Try uninstalling until the phone is stable again. Hope you EVO is up and well soon :)
