Any other EVO users in Alaska???

just wondering casue I feel I am the only one. I saw a guy at the state fair yesterday and he was on his phone, I stood around for 5 min just to wait for his call to end and talk to him. Saddly he was from Cali and just got his phone a few days before and hadn't played with it much. So I showed him a few things. But really it would be nice to find others in Alaska to meet with. If you are from Alaska or know anybody that is please let me know.

Thanks

I could care less about Sarah Palin all she and her family have done is brought unwanted drama to Alaska...LOL

Alaska is a beautiful place to live but as far as cell service is sucks. Having the EVO I have the best phone in the state. They do offer the hero here and also ACS is about to get the droid... yes i said the droid not droid 2 or droid x...SAD... yes there is ATT so there is iphone but like I said having the EVO I have the best phone in the state all these iphone people go in awe of my phone...LOL I have to show it off to them.

I lived in Cordova when I was a kid. A REAL long time ago early 60s. Wooden sidewalks and gravel streets and making a lot of noise when we went into the woods to warn the bears. Buying caribou meat in the store because beef was too expensive. Almost being carried away by mosquitoes (and ice worms ;) ) at the glacier. I miss it still and want to go back. I'll bring my Evo if I do. :D Actually we moved back to the states a few months before the big quake hit.

I don't think anyone else lives there, but I would move there in a heartbeat if I could afford to move there (and live there)......

How was that ragging on the guy? Take a moment and read...especially if you are a moderator.
If he meant it as no one from this forum lives there then that's fine, but to say no one lives in Alaska would be considered rude. Being a mod really has nothing to do with it.

Cell Phone service does suck in Alaska!...... well with maybe the exception of Verizon. I was just there last year for work, and down the Seward Highway, on the way to Seward, I lost reception early into my trip, and was in and out of service. My verizon toting co-worker didn't have an issue the entire trip. Insult to injury, he had reception on a Kenai Fjord tour!

Holy @#$#, somebody from Alaska! I was born and raised in Barrow. Living in Cali at the moment, I think ill convince my aunts there in Anchorage to get the evo 4g so you won't be the only one :D

I wanna go back to work for the Borough buku dollars!

Speaking of cellphone reception I had my friend overnight the iphone 3g (first ver of 3g) to me because I was SO anxious to get a touch of civilization again haha. It was $100 to overnight it, which took 4 days still because of weekends and I wasn't (obviously) able to get 3g nor edge. I was stuck to just calls n texts. A few times out of the 6 months I stayed there, i wasn't able to make calls and it seems like I was being redirected to GCI's automated message.

I've wondered, was my cellphone COMPLETELY associating with GCI's network hence it would kick me off (since im not part of their network) after a few months of using their network?

Whether I meant that nobody from the forum lives there OR nobody lives in Alaska is NOT rude, JUST STATISTICAL FACT!!

Alaska has the 3rd fewest people by population (2000 census) and even Rhode Island has nearly twice as many people!!

You mods need to get a life and go out and play!!!!

Dude, do you know what the definition of fact is? If nobody at all lives there then how come they still have a larger population than 2 other states?

I have sprint.

In Anchorage I didn't have an issue (for the most part), and near the populated areas I didn't have an issue(for the most part), but for some reason on the way and in Seward I had issues.

The most annoying thing I experienced was that because I had a borderline signal, I would sometimes receive text messages 4 or 5 times

If youare planning on using the phone with GCI nothing is going to work it is a cdma phone locked on sprint and GCI uses GSM which mean it can be unlocked and switch out sim cards= EVO will NOT work on GCI.

Sorry to burst any hopeful bubble you had. I have not used the 2-way video yet but if i were you I would just drop GCI and get sprint. Yes you will have to have a long distance number but for me it is worth the trade off... It is a GREAT phone!!!

And as of right now the iphone is locked on facetime so no it can not video chat with the EVO...BOO

Hopefully this info helps, if you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

I'm not trying to play moderator on you, if I was I would just delete your post. I made that statement as a member of this forum. If this is the way you wanna play it thats fine with me but I suggest you calm down and not take things so seriously.

I live in Alaska just came back from a 4 month deployment. Before I left I had the hero on Sprint and everything was working fine, but when I came home I couldn't use data at all on the phone. I upgraded to the evo and I'm having the same problems. Just wondering if you have been experiencing anything like this or if you have any ideas on how to fix it?
