Help Slide Mechanism...Is Yours Loose???

My phone is just great except for one thing...the top piece is slightly loose...loose enough that it rattles some when I tap the screen. There is definate play in all directions. I am very careful with my phone and do not use the slider unless I intend to use the keyboard. My wife's, on the other hand, is very tight. No significant play at all. They were both bought on launch day.

I saw a new one the other day and it was super solid so I am just wondering what everyone's experience is with this. I went to Best Buy and showed the phone to the sales rep and she said it is normal. I don't agree and find it unacceptable but she wouldn't exchange the phone with another. I was pissed to say the least. So is this something that will naturally loosen up in a couple weeks and is happening to everyone's phone or is it only mine?

I stopped by the Sprint store on my way to Best Buy where i got the phone. Sprint said it should be exchanged but they wouldn't do it and said BB had to. Exchanged it at BB and this new one is rock solid. I am wondering if the snap on case I used for a week did that to it. Wife didn't use one and hers is solid. Will post up how this one holds up.

personally I think the clip on cases can put a little stress on the slider because they create separation in the two halves. Is it a big deal? Not sure, but I had one on my Moment and took it off after 3 days. I tend to just do the holster thing with slider phones.

I remember the old Nokia days when it was simple to just buy replacement housings for your phone. Then it was easy to just go naked.

Don't judge the "loose-ness" by the display models in the store. Remember, every person that walks by the display grabs it and slides it open 3-4 times, of course it's gonna get worn out and loose! Out of the box it should be tight as a drum. If not, ask for another box.

EDIT: I bought a belt clip type holster that my EPIC locks into. I think it might help protect the slider because when I'm not using the phone it is locked in place by the holster and can't slide open. Maybe being "naked" in a pocket it has a chance to constantly slip open and closed....

i took mine to the sprint store to see if they could tighten it up a bit but they couldn't.
then i just bought a case for it while i was there and now there's no play at all, even when the keyboard is out.

they're sliders so there's gonna be a little bit of play there naturally. that's just how it is apparently

does the phone feel significantly bigger with a case on?

I bought my epic friday its sunday night and its been loose since staurday mornig id say i played with it a bunch since it was brand new but not so much with the keyboard maybe it differs for some devices but mine definitely has more play than id like when the keyboard is out i just hope that it doesnt affect the screen like other sliders in the past other than that love the phone had a blackberry and miss nothing about it android is where you should be

What is considered "loose" ... my phone doesn't rattle or make noise but I do notice it's a little loose when you slide it. Is that normal? My boyfriend's Epic feels tighter, but that's because it has dirt! He's labor foreman and gets the phone dirty!

My phone easily slides open...when I lock or unlock I always have to hold the phone tight so the slider wont' open, normal?

Mine is loose after one week and it drives me nuts. This is the biggest reason why I was hesitant about buying this phone. My wife has a Captivate from AT&T and I love how much more compact that version of the Galaxy S is versus the Epic. Going to swap the phone for an Evo tomorrow as I just cant handle the looseness of the screen after one week of very delicate usage.

My girlfriend just got the Samsung Gravity T from T-mobile, another slider from Samsung. That thing is TIGHT, zero play whatsoever. I've had the Epic since day 1 and I must say, after feeling the slider on her new phone I am actually really disappointed in the amount of play on the Epic. I agree with the post above that said the clip on case is putting undue stress between the halves; I noticed that instantly - but even without, it's definitely a loose slider by comparison to others. Mine has also started to develop a bit of a rattle; when open, I can actually detect the front-to-back rattle of the screen.

my epic is just 4 days old and rattle enough to be quite unnerving. I actually worry the thing might break if i slide the keyboard out too frequently. should I see about an exchange or get device insurance? leaning towards both.

I find I can push the edge of the screen up and to the left lightly to tighten it up while using. seems like I shouldnt have to, though!
