Root ROM Question

Recently rooted my phone. Trying to find the right ROM but there are so many choices.

I tried CM6, but I can't stand ADW and phone seemed overall slower. Plus it made me realzie how much I like Sense and the HTC Widgets, such as Friend Stream and News.

I guess all I am looking for is a stock-ish ROM with Wireless Tether, no bloatware, and FPS cap lifted for smoothness.

Was thinking about using the latest Fresh 3 w/ netarchy kernal. But maybe I am better off just using a rooted stock OTA ROM and just use netarchy kernal.

I saw that Fresh doesnt change the signature so you can still get sprint updates and stuff, if I install a different kernal with the fresh rom, does that change the signature?

Any other ROMs you guys can recommend?

I'd start out with the rooted stock ROM. See my sig. That keeps your phone looking and working like stock, but you still have root access. Test wifi tether. If it's working, then great. If you have issues, consider flashing a custom kernel over the stock ROM. 2 great choices in my sig. Both work will with stock ROM.

I recommend VirusROM Series 1.0 and King's BFS #9 kernel. They work very fast and smooth together.

I'm also new to rooting (with a huge amount of help from novox77) I tried out several ROMs and a couple different kernels, i found my self back at a stock 2.2 ROM and using LauncherPro (i like the setup i had before rooting) Right now i'm trying out the 3.28 version. so far no problems but i haven't had a chance to do a fair assessment on the battery life.

Sorry but could you clarify is 3.28 the rom or kernel? I am using DamageControl 3.5 rom, the fella that helped me root suggested it. So far ok but it would be nice if someone could list all of the pros and cons of each rom/kernel in a book or app. I realize it would be outdated quickly but I just want a little info of what each one offers and possibly any conflicts that certain rom/kernel combinations may have. I think it would save a lot of space in many forums from noobs such as myself who are trying to educate themselves before diving in head first. I mean if you have the jargin down maybe you understand but I just want Pros vs Cons (wi fi tether, no 4g, bluetooth, but won't work with these types of kernels). Thanks for any light you could shed. Is your 3.28 more of a stock rom? Thanks again for your knowledge it is greatly appreciated!

3.28 is the build number for an updated 2.2 ROM. I define "stock" as anything that is officially distributed and hasn't been modified. So 3.28 is the stock update to the 3.26 stock froyo rom.

The ROM contains a kernel and an operating system. So the build number applies to both components. The kernel and the OS come together in the package (ROM). Now, you can flash a ROM that contains just a kernel. That's how you can run a stock ROM with a custom kernel. You're just overwriting the stock kernel with a custom one. The OS remains stock.
