Help X comes tomorrow, couple questions...

I've read so many different things about battery "training" with new devices. My X comes tomorrow at work, where the signal is poor. My question is, should I charge it to full before I even turn it on? Or should I turn it on and use whatever charge it comes with before I give it a good overnight charge? I'm considering the extended battery already, only because it's barely bigger, but I'd rather not get it if I don't have to.

Thats what I did when I got mine on Tuesday. Then I got a 'battery left' widget, yesterday, let it completely run out again, and charged it overnight (while it was off - not sure if that made a difference or not).

So far, today I've been going strong since about 8 am, and still have 39% left at 10:15 pm with moderate use most of the day!

Oh my goodness, why does this still happen? Did you do ANY research at all before posting this awful outdated and possibly damaging advice? These are NOT, I repeat N.O.T. Ni-Cad batteries. This means they do NOT have battery memory, they do NOT need to be fully discharged. In fact, they SHOULDN'T be fully discharged seeing that they are Li-Ion batteries. You should charge it full right away. For further information on your new phone consider doing a search, I know I myself have answered this question many times in seperate posts. After reading a lot of posts on this subject and having many people provide unfounded opinions I did a quick google search.

How to prolong lithium-based batteries

The main points are as follows:
"the battery (li ion) prefers a partial rather than a full discharge."
There is no concern of memory with unscheduled charges
This means throwing your x on a charger for a few minutes is not a problem.
Every 30 charge cycles you should let the battery run out to allow the battery gauge to sync up.
A charge cycle is measured on how much the battery increases. A charge from 50 to 100 is a half cycle, empty to full is a full cycle.
I hope this info helps, but don't be afraid to do a little research.

EDIT: I'm not trying to attack anyone here, just trying to inform people. Also, just to give you an idea of my battery, I am at 60+% after 1d 0h 10m 49s with display taking 44%, cell standby 39%, phone idle 13%, and voice calls 6%. I regularly get 2 days of considerable use out of my phone. My home internet sucks so my x is my primary surfing device.

Yes...

The phone has a "fuel gauge", a full discharge and full charge trains it.
Or, a full charge, then full discharge...the battery or phone don't care which.

The OP wants to use it as soon as it's in their hands I'm sure...so use it till it shuts down, then charge it back up to full (BTW, it's still got 5% left at shut down as to not damaged the battery and lose information). One discharge/charge or charge/discharge cycle, then charge it when you want or need to. It's also not a bad idea to do a cycle every once in a while to keep your "fuel gauge" accurate.

And that would have been a much better post, you just need to be careful you don't give misleading advice. A "full" disc. harge should be done only occasionally. That's important information to include. I was guessing you knew as much, I just wanted to be sure the op knows this too.
