Help Actual wallpaper resolution for Incredible

Most of the documentation I've seen says that wallpaper images for the Incredible should be 960 (w) x 800 (h). So I made some wallpaper images that were all exactly 960 x 800 and loaded them onto the phone. But when I went to Personalize -> Home Wallpaper and selected any of them from the gallery is STILL put a cropping box around the inside of the image, so it only ended up using maybe the inside ~70% of the image.

What size do my images have to be, really, so it won't do this?

The resolution is 480 x 800, so you should make the wallpaper this size, to fit a single screen. If you're using multiple screens, depending on if it's 3 screens, or more, you'll have to play around with any range from 480 - 800 (x 800) to see what happens.

Have you tried stretching the cropping box to the outer edges of your image?

No, wallpaper resolution != screen resolution.

If you use the default wallpaper that comes with the Incredible (black with a sort of orange typhoon pattern) and navigate by flicking to the extended home pages, you'll see that it doesn't move a whole page-worth of wallpaper - the wallpaper just moves a little bit but a whole new page of icons is layered on top. (That's also what it does with my personalized wallpaper images)

The cropping box it creates is BIGGER than one-screen-resolution, but it's not any integer multiple of a screen resolution (I verified this on my own images AND on the built-in HTC wallpapers).

Have you tried stretching the cropping box to the outer edges of your image?

It doesn't seem to be stretchable but it does let you pan it around.

But nonetheless, the cropping box DOES seem to be the magic number we're looking for here. How do we find out what it is? Do we have ANY Droid incredible owners here who've played around with home-made wallpapers?

I created a 960 x 800 pixel image in Photoshop with a calibrated test pattern and loaded it into my phone. The cropped region it creates appears to be approximately 720H x 620V (just eyeballing it).

Any clues? I.e., WT*?

FWIW this is Android 2.2 , not rooted.

Do a 'reverse pinch' and the green crop box for selecting the wallpaper will get bigger. Not sure why it doesn't start out at screen resolution if the jpg is big enough.
