Help Weird... some disabled programs still using internet

I've disabled (in Settings, Accounts and SYnchronization) both automatic synchronisation for applications like Stocks and Peep (Twitter) and background data traffic. Moreover, I've never used these programs. Best of all, I don't even have a Stocks account or a Twitter account.

Nevertheless, these apps still send and receive data, as Trafficstats tells me. It's not a lot (about a kB a day), but still, how and why do these programs access the internet given all of the things I've switched off or don't use?

(I know I can completely switch off data traffic, but I'm trying to understand what happens.)

You can manually stop them running by going into Applications via the menu>settings and select Manage Applications>Running and select the app and Force Stop!

IF you are never going to use them just uninstall the offending apps......

As to why they do it, at a guess I would say it is the way they are coded. Luckily they only use a small amount of data!

I have the same issue but Friendstream, Footprints etc can't be uninstalled as far as I know.

I've noticed this too but it seems that in trafficstats, most of the HTC sense apps return a combined figure. You will probably see that the Flickr, stocks etc all have the same usage figure.

That's correct, any idea why

And why do these apps generate data traffic? It's not just that I haven't started them (they might be autostarted and not show up in the task list), but I don't even have accounts they can synchronize with.

Thnx! Trafficinfo is very clear!

It may also give a hint as to why "SIM toolkit" is generating so much traffic. It's not only SIM toolkit, but also Telephone, Field Test and Telephone Storage. Hm, I've still got no clue why this would generate traffic :). Anyone?

SIM Toolkit does the same with me.

Footprints (never use), Peep (never use), Friendstream (never use), Stocks (sync disabled) & Calendar (use sometimes) according to TrafficStat use nearly 2.5MB between them by the end of the day & I can't work out why?

As TrafficInfo tells you, all of these programs seem to have a module called "DCS Service" in common. And it's probably this, a software module deep down in Android, or a lot of applications, that's the culprit. I've tried to google what it is or does, but to no avail.

If anyone knows what DCS Service is or does, it'd like to know! Same for SIM Toolkit (which seems closely related to the phone application).
