Root Update/flashing ROM black screen problems

I apologize in advance if this is a redundant post. There were threads similar to what I was looking for but not exactly.

After buying a HTC Desire in August, I've been very happy with it. The best phone I have ever owned. And after rooting it and installing LeeDroid's 1.9a ROM, I've been enjoying the tweaks and a2sd+.

Anyway, I have a Telus Desire which I unlocked and am using with Fido. I followed this guide to root and this to install the LeeDroid ROM.

Ever since then, however, I have not been flash any new ROMs. When I flash a new ROM using ROM Manager, it goes to the white screen with the HTC in green then the screen/phone just shuts off becoming unresponsive until I take the battery out then in again. When I open ROM Manager, it gives me a pop-up that says "Recovery Failure" with three lines which say:
- Recovery mode is "broken".
- ROM Manager doesn't reboot.
- Other.

I tried to reload the clockwork recovery using ROM Manager and Unrevoked. Didn't seem to fix the issue.

There is an official OTA update that I couldn't install due to the same issue.

If you have any input as to how I should fix this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it. I did the above process using Windows XP on Bootcamp on a MacBook.

Regards,

John

Ok
1) you shouldn't be able to install ota updates on custom roms. Even if you cam it could break things.

2) can you manually get into standsed recovery? Hold vol down, power on, use vol buttons to highlight recovery, power to select? If you get black screen.with red triangle, volume up.and power...

I can manually start into recovery. But I can only get as far as the initial menu screen. After I choose something, the phone goes blank and unresponsive. The screen shuts off. Not a black screen with a red triangle there.

Install unrevoked 3.14, it will flash your recovery partition with a working version (that guide is not up to date).

http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.14/reflash_package.exe

(and use recovery via the bootloader, not ROM manager)

is it an SLCD or Amoled?

Is it worth using a compatible RUU to flash it to a generic 2.1 and re-root?

I will try to flash the recovery partition again.

If that doesn't work, I'll try to go back to 2.1 and re-root. Do you know of any up-to-date guides on how to do that?

Thanks for your help!

I tried to flash the recovery again. Unrevoked could not get root with both Windows and Mac versions of the most up to date software I found on the official site.

I tried to boot into recovery (and boot into the recover via ROM Manager) and both methods are giving me the same problems.

Is there anything else I should try? Or should I downgrade to stock and re-root?

That's why I gave you a link for 3.14 specifically.

Thanks teppic. That version gave me back working clockwork recovery!

However, I have not been reboot after my first re-boot. I can boot into the recovery mode. But my sd card is now giving me some grief. The sd card can't be mounted for me to get access to a ROM (or anything for that matter) in the recovery.

If I turn the phone on normally, it will be stuck at the white screen with the HTC logo.

Any ideas?
