Galaxy S: Some thoughts on life *with* Froyo

Hey, so I'm new to these parts of town - although I've been lurking for the last month or so since I got an Android phone.

I must admit I was MASSIVELY disappointed with the Galaxy S. It is a lovely phone, that does lots of wonderful things. But I was having trouble with the battery life, GPS and MASSIVE lag issues. Its amazing that someone thought it was fine to release it in that state!

I decided to take matters into my own hands after it seemed like Froyo wasn't coming till the end of October and installed it myself. Obviously it was a big risk, and it took me a long time to do it and get it working, but even though its a beta version (JPK), my phone is working ALOT better now.

My battery life has improved significantly. This might also be because I've turned off regular updates for Twitter (used Twicca on 2.1, now using Touiter). But I can still tell the difference. My GPS works wonders. The little updates that come with Froyo enhance the overall experience. But best of all, the general lag has gone. My phone feels zippy now.

I should say, however, that there are a few little things that need sorting out. The phone throws a paddy once a day and decides to freeze up, so you have to wait for it to calm down. But I can live with this, given the improvements.

In a nutshell, if you're frustrated with your SGS, I reckon its worth taking the plunge and going Froyo now. Obviously there's every chance you won't be as happy as I am, but for me I'm pleased I gambled it.

Sorry for whittling on. Just wanted to join in the action.

I'm running a rooted version of froyo and a lag fix and the difference in the speed is amazing. I found downloading emails especialy slow with eclair using the latest version from kies, I was starting to think it was the network until I checked a colleague also using orange. With Froyo and the lagfix it's as fast as my iphone 3g was.

Looking forward to the final version of froyo!

It's a racist term English people use

There are two definitions of Paddy. One is a nickname for 'Patrick'. The other is like a tantrum. It is by no means (to my knowledge anyway) racist.

And the paddy/tantrum has only happened a couple of times. It tends to be after a call the phone just freezes for a bit. But totally worth it for the overall improvement. On Friday my phone battery died by 4pm. I've used it just as much today, if not more, and its on 77% battery still...

I'm running 2.1 with the Voodoo lag fix, and my phone's going great. Haven't had any GPS issues, and I've got (imo) realistic expectations on what sort of battery life I can expect out of the pocket computer I'm carrying round as a phone, so I expect to charge it every day.

T-Mobile have said 2.2 will be here by the end of the month so no complaints about the phone from me...as Macdonalds would say....I'm lovin it:)
