dont know if this is possible but i know it dont come standard on my phone (Captivate). i just moved over from razor and while it may seem un-needed, i really really miss the feature to have a different ringtone for ppl on messaging. which gets used a million times more than actual calls. lets me know whos texting if i'm not around the phone

Is there an app for setting different ringtones for each person on SMS?

was hoping it would do only sms alerts instead of setting the default ring as well. doesnt have most of the ringtones i'm lookin for. anybody know if there is a way to upload ringtones to the app? oh i just had an idea....wonder if i can just move my ringtones over to that folder and have them show up in my downloads lol

welll.....that didnt work. got it in the same folder and even renamed the file to be exactly the same format as the ringtones that i downloaded using the program. hmmm...

edit: when opening the program after trying this, the file doesnt show up there in the downloaded file to be set as a ringtone~

Handcent will do this. Once you have a text to or from the individual you have a settings option in the text message thread where you can set the notification sound. At first it looks like the normal overall settings screen but any changes I made were only for that person. You do have to be IN the SMS thread and then choose the settings (upper right icon - looks like a person with a gear wheel).

Good luck

Is there a way to just have a custom general sms tone? i try setting a custom one through the notification tone setting and nothing happens. i just want a cool sms tone

Open Messenging (where you see all the threads) -> Menu button -> Settings -> scroll to the very bottom and there is a "Select Ringtone" option

Edit: Oh hell, i forgot i wasnt in the Captivate forum lol. It should be close to this on most of the phones tho, whichever you have. Just go into settings while in the SMS app. should be there somewhere

Edit Edit: I just noticed u have captivate listed for the device....yay me~
