Fascinate vs Droid X

Lets see, the X. Better build quality, better reception, better voice quality, noise cancellation, better battery life, bigger screen, better resolution, sharper, crisper text and more.

More memory, no bing(WTF?), no blue tint on the screen, bottom buttons stay lit, home button wakes phone. More better. It's this way: X > fAsCiNaTe.

I'm not even going to argue with this I have both phones. They are both great phones but to start spouting off issues that the Fascinate has and not addressing any issues the Droid X has does not help anyone who is looking into buying a new phone.

With that said I don't entirely trust Samsung as a phone manufacture, but I do have a lot of faith in the android community. Motorola with the Droid X has taken away much of what the android community can do with that phone.

To the OP, you as a consumer can go into your local Verizon store and try out both phones to get a feel for the hardware and the stock software. With all things being equal (relatively speaking) what it came down to for me was where my priorities lie. I would rather be able to "own" my phone and not be stuck with whatever Motorola saw fit for me. If you are not someone who is interested in modifying your phone then, in my opinion, the Droid X is the better of the two phones out of the box. Another thing to consider is that the Fascinate would also be a cheeper buy right now whether through Amazon, BOGO, or the Bestbuy deal they have this Friday.

Here we go again. I think you have that post saved somewhere so you can just copy and paste it every time someone compares the X to the Fascinate. Seriously, why do you even come to the Fascinate section? You are clearly biased and I feel bad for anyone who bases their decision off of your comments.

Just stating the facts. Anyone who bases their decision on what they read online instead of going to a store to try the phones, you should feel bad. Oh and lets not forget the 30 day worry free thing. :)

those aren't facts, those are opinions, i could provide opposing opinions to nearly every one of your opinions, but you obviously would not take anything away from it. one shining example would be the fact that the Galaxy S phones have more advanced hardware (CPU/GPU) which once the software matures will walk all over the DX from a performance perspective

besides...if you are such a DX fanboy and don't own a Fascinate why do you venture over to the device specific Fascinate forums to post a one sided opinionated rant? do you feel this necessary because you carry a DX? im pretty sure you wont find nearly as many if any Fascinate users who dont own a DX over in the DX forums slandering it......of course i have not looked for that either....but that figures

I have played with both in the store and I'm leaning toward the fascinate. I know there are fascinate owners who may have had the Droid X previously or know someone who has one or the other. I was looking more info on bugs, pros and cons found over time with both headsets.

I had the X before i got the fascinate and it is a nice phone but after awhile i got tired of carrying that big thing around everyday. I know people will say its not that big but it is i mean you cant compare it to other phones and say that it isnt. I have not had any issues with the fascinate and it is more 1 hand friendly, being easier to reach the top of the screen to bring the notification window down. The screen is always pretty amazing. I mean everything looks so nice on the super amoled screen. Not to mention if you have any intentions to root the fascinate's bootloader is unlocked therefore easier to get roms and what not for it. But i agree you have to play with them both see which one fits you more.

These are my thoughts exactly. I hate the whole "better resolution" comments that are always out there too. The X DOES NOT have better resolution, it has more pixels ONLY because it has a larger screen. In fact, I would argue that the Fascinate has better true resolution given it has a higher pixel density. (I will admit I didn't do the math for the long dimension since I am lazy, but I guarantee it has more pixel density in the width since they have the same number of pixels and the Fascinate screen isn't as wide). So if you want to say the X has more pixels, fine go ahead and brag about that, but it doesn't have better resolution.

There is also no way that you can say for a fact that the display is sharper, cripser, or any other adjective you want to use, that all comes down to the indviduals preference. I am not sure why you say it has better build quality either (just because it is heavier maybe?). I have not seen any build quality issues with the SF, but maybe I am just missing something. Heavier DOES NOT mean better build quality. The screen alone on the SF is a big weight savings because of its smaller size and better technology.

The only fact here is that you are trolling the Fascinate specific forums and provide nothing of any real value to people debating on purchasing the phone. There are pros and cons to EVERY single phone that exists. I have heard numerous complaints about the X too, but you seem to never mention any of those.

I played with both phones significantly and one of my friends has the X and I would still choose the Fascinate any day. Just wait for the 2.2 update too, that is going to be a game changer. Oh, and did I mention that the X is probably one of the ugliest phones ever created?

The Fascinate definitely has more potential for the following reasons.

Yes, the Fascinate has a few minor issues but none of them is big enough to be a show-stopper. And frankly, every phone has its issue.

The Fascinate has the finesse look that no other Android phone currently on the market has. This phone provides a complete mobile experience that attracts both women and men (contrary to the X which targets primarily the men, so it loses half of the population there).

What matters to the consumers (I mean general consumers and not only hard-core techies) is the complete package that provides an excellent mobile experience. That is what consumers care about, and that is why the iPhone has been so successful even though the iPhone has some minor issues (e.g. no SD card). In my humble opinion, the Fascinate is the first Android phone that can truly compete head-to-head with the iPhone. I think the Fascinate is the true iPhone killer that we have been looking for in years because it targets the exact same consumer demographics.

You need to understand that majority of the consumers do not care about the technical details like Bing Search over Google Search, or TouchWiz vs Sense, or rooted vs non-rooted. I understand these things might be very important to the people on this forum. But what percentage of consumers nationwide come and visit this forum? We are only a small minority. Majority of the consumers care only if the phone can provide an excellent mobile experience or not...no more and no less.

I think the other Android phone manufacturers should take notes on this. :)

My English teacher taught me that proper nouns begin with capital letters.

I think I would've failed if I'd written my name like this: jOsh
Or written book titles like this: hUckleberry fIn
Or written her name like this: iNgred mCnielsen

Even "I" should be capitalized. Way to screw up proper English, aPple.

I had the X for about 3 weeks. I sold it and bought the Incredible. I have owned almost every Android device made for Tmo, AT&T, and Verizon. The Droid Inc was the best I have ever used. I returned it and got the Fascinate. The screen is wonderful, and battery is great! Call quality sucks because it has an echo. The Inc with sense ui was just amazing, fast, excellent call quality, battery was fine. The fascinate has allot of potential, and I got it because it is absolutely without a doubt the best looking hardware I have ever seen on anything except the iPhone. I am hoping that the hackers get us a good rom soon. I would love this phone if it had sense on it. Touchwiz blows!

Many don't like TW, Many do like Sense. Some, especially those who come from Sense to the SF can live with something like LauncherPro as a decent compromise

I've been on the fence between the DX and the SF, but after reading through various forums and threads much like this, I think I've finally decided to side with the DX. I live in a valley that gets pretty poor reception, and my current phone (LG VX8550 Chocolate) gets poor reception and will often notify me of text messages well after they were sent by a friend; sometimes calls won't come through, but a voicemail notification will suddenly appear if the caller left a voicemail. I never remember this ever being an issue with the old Moto Razr. For this reason, I feel Moto's superior reception with their phones is key for me.

Although the DX has had a locked bootloader, there still is quite a bit of useful things you can do through root - remove the bloatware & customize the look with themes. There are also small strides being made by birdman and others to crack through the bootloader; it just seems like a matter of time it's cracked and ROMs can be developed.

The other issue that has kept me partially against Samsung, other than the inferior reception, has been their history of poor support for their phones for a good length of time. Look at them even now - they not only released a series of phones with poor GPS issues out of the box, but they have yet to provide fixes for them. There is also the constant question of when the phones will even receive Froyo.. November? December? Not a great start to show the owners of their phones that they're behind them with support. However, there is a strong hack/dev community behind the Samsung phones that have already done a great job to pick up Samsung's shortcomings.

That's some good logical reasoning you got there. I still consider the Droid X and the Fascinate a dead tie when it comes to phone vs. phone. They are both excellent devices, but for the reasons and issues you listed, especially the reception in your area, you really need to go with the strongest radio you can get.

And you can have a heyday with a rooted Droid X. When I rooted it and got rid of bloat, then installed launcher pro plus (which will actually use motorola's resizable widgets!!!) it was a freaking dream phone. I only ended up trading for the better ergonomics and brighter screen (I gotta be able to see it in the sun quite often!). But I truly would've been happy with the Droid X as well.

Sadly, I'm having to leave the Fascinate. My new Droid X will be here Monday. Currently, I am recieving NO calls at all when I'm at home. I have zero bars and zero 3G. My phone becomes an inanimate object when I get to my house. I've been through 3 of them since I sent the first one back for severe overheating last week. I stayed on the phone with Tech Support at VZW (who have been amazing, btw) and they said I wasn't even registering on the VZW network!!

Let me say this: I LOVE THIS PHONE! I wanted so badly for this to work out, but I have to get reception where I live. My other Motorola Droid got excellent service where I live, so hopefully the X will too. The original Fascinate got excellent signal at my aparment, but got so hot I could barely hold it. The other two....notsomuch.

I am going to miss the amoled screen, the speed and the overall look and feel of the phone. A lot!!!! :(

Also, just wanted to say thanks to everyone in this forum. You have all been so helpful and nice! I'm sure I'll see you around the forums. :)

Here's to hoping I love my new Droid X!!

those aren't facts, those are opinions

Here are the facts, tiny tim:

Not made of recycled plastic. Better reception, better call quality. Noise cancellation. Bigger screen. Better resolution, more realistic colors, not over saturated. More memory, no bing. GPS not busted. Lower 4 buttons stay on more than 2 seconds. LOL. Since those are indeed the facts, this is what comes next: X > fAsCiNaTe.

Not a brick, more vibrant screen, screen not washed out, market isn't incredibly slow doesn't drop 3g randomly, not ugly as sin, capasitive buttons don't sound like you're popping your knuckles, easier to root, not broken by 2.2.

See I can list some issues and opinions that I can facts.

I love how you refuse to see that it's a matter of opinion and that they both are great phone.

TheXFactor, you are seriously everything that is wrong with the iCulture. Just move to ATT and get an iPhone. Android is about choices and openness, if you're going to fanboy out over something, an android phone isn't it.

Please get over yourself, because it's really, really getting old seeing your same old post over and over.

Root it (one click universal androot app works perfectly) and install launcher pro and you will LOVE IT. I loved mine. Great phone. Other than the GPU it should be just as fast as the Fascinate. And although the screen is not as bright, text is slightly sharper if you have really good eyesight.

This thread is insane, especially if someone is saying the Droid X has a sharper display then the Fascinate? What the Hell are u smoking who ever said that? The display on the Fascinate, along with the Galaxy S line Burns anything available on the market right now! The X screen looks like old technology next to the Fascinate, that's not opinion, that's fact! Now is the X a bad phone? Absolutely not, its a very capable phone, and has the backing of a great company in Motorola. However I just don't see it being better then the Fascinate. I have the Evo, which is pretty much the same size as the x, and I gotta say the form factor on the Fascinate just puts it ahead of any other large phone available right now. We can all argue until were blue in the face, but in the end it comes down to what you like, and what's going to best fit your needs! For me, the Fascinate is an insane device, and does all I need in a phone, which is why I give it the title of being the best Android phone on vzw right now, any negatives are way outweighed by so many positives!

I've had the Fascinate since launch and I'm really enjoying it. I though I would end up with the DX when it launched but I was one of the few that wasn't impressed with it.

That being said, I've been to many Verizon stores since I've gotten my Fascinate. I wanted to compare it with the DX and be comfortable with my decision. After several hours of comparing the 2 devices (and the DInc to some extent), The Fascinate wins hands down. I would even go so far as to say the Incredible places 2nd and the X third.

Now I'm not saying the X is a bad phone, it's a fabulous phone. For me, the Fascinate is just a better device. Now let's hope & pray Samsung supports us.

Well, I have owned a Droid X for about a 2 months. It is a terrific phone. As I've said in earlier posts, I've been looking for a reason to try out the Fascinate. I found it on line at a really great price and bought it.

The SCREEN is FANTASTIC!!! The overall system is very good. Now comes the other buts in addition to ones previously stated!!

But 1: The Bluetooth doesn't work well with my Ford Sync. Won't do text messaging, won't do Phonebook download, it is way less than the Droid X here. The Droid X works flawlessly.

But 2: The car mount is really junk compared to the Droid X.

I really still want to like this device because man the screen is CRAZY good and the system works well together.

I own both of these devices and will keep the Fascinate hoping 2.2 will fix the Ford Sync problem. If not, catch it on Ebay.
