OTA Update Starting today?

apparently you didn't notice the 15 other thread on the top about updates :(

getting the update is old news now everyone can install it.

quit being a douche ...... smartass comments are much more unnecessary than a guy asking a question that has been asked . Really how productive are YOU being . first by bumping the same thread you have a problem with to the top again(counterproductive), second you didnt even answer the mans question. You internet police kill me , get over yourself.

Quick question, will rooting the device affect further updates (ie. Android 2.1 in Jan) or be affected by updates?

Or even receive the update to start with?

If you root you will no longer get update notifications (at least that's what the dudes who are familiar with rooting have said).

You'd need to get and install a custom ROM based on the 2.1 (or whatever) update...

Do you think this manuall update is trust worthy ? Is it possible that someone could have altered its contents ?

I didn't download the version that's on rapidshare or the other file sharing sites. The actual link to the update on the Google servers is floating around. If you download that one directly from Google, it's going to be the same update that your phone is going to get from Verizon.

So I just got my phone lastnight (love it more then an BB) but it seems I still haven't gotten the update so perhaps I'm thinking its just gonna take some time to show the update, considering I've only have had it for less then 24 hours..I checked to make sure my phone didn't come with the new OS but it still says 2.0.. any opinions why I didn't get the update?

Thanks, Shawn

Probably because you weren't a part of the small minority of owners who received the update. More are coming during the remaining days of this week.

Great attitude!!! I also think the phone is pretty darn good before the update.. I think people expect WAAAAAYYYY too much from a smartphone and especially considering the fairly new software matched to a fairly new phone design.. Of course I am excited about the update but I am still getting used to the phone the way it is and learning what works for me and doesnt.. People need to relax a little..

I installed it earlier today without errors. I downloaded the file to my notebook computer first. I renamed the file "update" (without the quotes). I hooked up the phone to my computer and copied the file onto the SD card in an open space. I followed the directions for restarting and installing and it worked perfectly.
