Pro or Venus?

Venus is the codename, I think

Well, the headline shows Pro....but the article hints at "venus"

I just emailed Nilay and Laura to get clarification.

*edit...it is indeed the Droid Pro. The venus was yet again another "code" name*

Looks to be an adult version of the Tmobile Charm

This is Officially Droid Pro. It has elevated features than Venus, which is not yet confirmed but might release as a WP7 device (Source).
Thanks & Regards.

Owned a BB 8910 model for 1.5 years and liked it. Have owned a Nexus one Google phone now since it came out in December of 09 and love it. However, I have to admit that for a LOOONNNG time I have wished for a Qwerty touchscreen combo for a while as my ultimate in between, best of the 2 world sort of a phone. Having said that, there are few quirks, additional specs I would have loved for this model to have.
Starting with the hardware, outside, mostly, the front is class A as far as finish. Wis it had 3.5″ screen instead of the 3.1, the back cover however, HORRIBLE. The shinny plasticy looking is so 3 years ago. Make the back all silver/steel looking and flat and you have a perfect design, of course this is IMO.
Now as far as the specs, the dual core processor would have been the new standard of the next generation. Add a 4G band along with front facing camera for the video chat then you have something everyone could drule over. And last but not least, the resolution, currently at 320 x 480 pixel is simply unacceptable. Make it a 640 x 960 pixels then you have yourself THE best phone out there.

The size of the screen is going to be the issue here I think. 3.1" was it? Most manufacturers will not be able to put out a hi-res panel at that size. I also don't think a bigger screen is plausible as the total size of the phone looks just about right.

Moto's hi-res is 854x480 and although that would be very nice on this phone, I understand that it is not feasible.

I used to have a 480x320 and now have an 800x480. I think I would take the step backwards for this form factor.

I saw a review that said the phone was very snappy and they thought part of it was the lower res screen requires less oomph from the processor. so is it possible they decided on purpose to put a crappy screen in to make it seem faster?

I use my phone predominately for email and text- so screen res isn't that critical for that. After that the next biggest thing is google maps and browser (hopefully that doesn't look like crap on lower res?). And an occasional game- but we're talking old man games (laughin) like solitaire and the like so graphics aren't the key there.

So if they can make google maps and the browser work out OK with the lower res then i personally would take the hit if it meant speeding up the things I do most- email and text.
