Root Noob question, how do i change kernals?

flashed a new rom using rom manager. i thought i remembered seeing options to download from a list of kernals?

or do i have to do it manually? if so, can anyone share a link? id like to try KK on top of virtuous

Sorry dont have an answer for you but rather I have another NOOB QUESTION:


If I have a .zip (a mod) how do I install that?
I heard that I have to put the .zip on my SD card but then what?

are there step by step instructions anywhere?

Put the zip file on the root of your sdcard.
Boot into custom recovery (clockwork).
Go into advanced and clear dalvik cache.
Select the clockwork option to choose a file to install. (It is called "install zip from sdcard")
Select the zip file and install it.
Reboot. (First boot after the dalvik cache clear and kernel install is going to take a bit, be patient.)
Enjoy your new kernel.

if you're rooted, you can do it through Rom manager as well. some people say it works better through recovery but I've never had a problem going with Rom manager (And I download things constantly, my phone is rarely the same for more than a couple days)

depends on what kernel you are looking at installing.... i know Virtuous has the kernels IN rom manager.

I've never had a problem with clearing the dalvik cache when installing a kernel and I've installed them quite a number of times. The phone rebuilds the cache as apps are run following the kernel install, and some kernel devs recommend a dalvik cache wipe when installing their kernels. With that said, thanks for the thumbs-up.

Kings recomends this for installing any of his Kernals.
