Life post Swype... NOW WHAT?

Well, another one of my Swype .apk stopped working yesterday.

So based on your recommendations I tried the Ultra Keyboard Trial.

I would give it a B, but it is so far below Swype that it is still painful for me to use.

Anyone have any ideas as to when Swype will become available for purchase??

I don't know if you've tried SwiftKey yet, but if not, I highly suggest you give it a try. It blows Swype away IMO with regard to accuracy. You don't get to swipe to type, but you rarely need to type more than 1 or 2 letters before it knows the word you want and you can move on.

Add me to the list of swype beta users very annoyed by the constant re-installs.
I tried Ultra Keyboard and found it to be really bad. Terrible word prediction for me and I always have to make a bunch of corrections after finishing a long email.

I'm back to using stock for now but might try swiftkey.

Constant re-installs because of new versions of the beta? Or constant installs because it stops "swyping" after reboot? If it's the later, you don't need to reinstall. Just switch the input method to touch input (or whatever) and back.

I think the latest beta is just fine. After installing the latest beta, I did have to tweak the Speed vs Accuracy bar a bit further to the right than I previously had it. Once I did that, Swype was performing every bit as well as it ever did (I would say even better, but I think that's just because I've been swyping so long it's 2nd nature to me).

lmao at the people complaining about it expiring. Just get ultra or a different one that wont expire. there are like 5 out and available right now. 1 of them must be close enough to satisfy you

Sorry but after months with Swype none of them come close enough to satisfy me. I am back on the stock keyboard, which I must say is much improved from when I left it months back.

I pray Swype (the full version) comes out soon... not sure how long I can peck these keys.

Don't get your hopes up. Word on the street is the full version will never be available to non-OEMs.

WHAT!?!?

What street?

Can anyone confirm this... I NEED SWYPE!!!!!
there have been a few threads with info on it. They are trying to get a company to put their product on a phone line. kinda like the droids have a swype built it. they would be set if a phone maker picks them up like that. They wont be able to sell it then though.

So far, Swype has been relatively easy to find every time one version expires. I had a version expire on me yesterday morning, and I had a new version back up and running within 2 hours, most of that delay caused by work taking up my time lol. It sucks that it has to happen that way, but as long as there are software hackers out there, we should always have some sort of Swype available to us. It's just too bad more and more forums are being complacent to those assholes and removing links :(

but that stinks...Swype is a fantastic keyboard. I know better ones will eventually come out but IMO nothing is as good right now. Ultra is ok you have to trace much slower and its less accurate. I too find myself constantly correcting errors with Ultra but Swype just works right easily and very quick.

I don't understand their line of thinking from a business standpoint. Hmmm...exclusively offer our product on certain devices so those users will be happy and people who can't will be disgruntled. Or, release in the market and cash in on the thousands who want it and will gladly pay for it. If possible, do both. Before too long your 15 mins of fame will be over and people won't even want it when BlindType and other things come out and that's a lot of missed opportunity.

I think selling through OEMs makes much much more money then though the consumers channel. My guess is that they might have the long term goal of having Swype come pre-install on all smart phones, lol. I know that if they sell the app directly through the consumers, the OEM would be less interested in their product.

I can't even seem to Ultra Keyboard working. I paid, downloaded, and installed it, then selected it in Settings, then enabled tracing. I still have the standard keyboard in all apps that require a keyboard. I even rebooted the DInc, but nothing.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you need to open a text message and hold down in the typing field and select Input Method then select Ultra Keyboard. This is how you change keyboards once they're installed.
