Making calls on wifi?

Depending on how technically proficient you are or feel like learning to be, you could sign up for any number of voip services and use a softphone like 3cx or sipdroid.

I'm using voip.ms as my service provider and I think I prefer 3cx. Outgoing calls are about a penny a minute. If you want a phone number to receive incoming calls (called a DID) via voip its $1-1.50 a month and 1-1.5 cents a minute, or up to 3500 incoming minutes free for $5-7 a month.

The whole can be a little daunting to someone not familiar with it but I don't think its that bad once you dive in.

What does this have to do with making calls on WiFi? I agree I love Google Voice, but it has nothing to do with VOIP

I use GV, but only for voicemail so I'm just asking out of curiosity here. I was under the impression that if you make a call thru google voice, it only counts as data so esentially you would be calling for free when your on wifi. Is this not the case?

Again, I'm asking for my own curiosity as I was tempted to start playing around with Google Voice a bit more for stuff like this.

No, any calls to or from your Google voice are just forwarded. It uses your regular cell minutes and no data at all. When it comes to phone calls GV is nothing more than a call forwarding service. I wish it made calls, but it doesn't.

I do love all the things GV does though and can't live without it.
