Hi

I have had some recent problems with my Nexus and I think its seriously broke. I am hoping someone can help as I couldnt bare sending this back off to HTC or Google for repair...especially living in the UK as I assume it will take ages!

Below are some details about the problem and things I have tried to resolve them.

History
Phone bought within the first week of release.
Nexus running OS 2.1 (standard)

Main Problem
The camera is unresponsive.

Whenever I click on the camera app the live wallpaper in the background freezes, then the phone turns black and when I press the backup or home button the below error message comes up:

Sorry

Activity camera (in application Camera) is not responding

Force Close / Wait

Other problems (maybe related...)
  1. The phone has been running hot ever since I bought it, and its just one of those things, however, recently its been warm when I wouldnt expect it too.
  2. I have been having calls cutting off mid-conversation.
  3. Also, I have had what seems excessive batter useage i.e. fully charged overnight and unplugged at 7am, battery dead by 10.30am.
Recent efforts
  1. I have factory reset the phone 3 times, the camera app still doesn't work.
  2. I have removed the memory card and put it back in and still nothing.
  3. I have swapped and used a friends memory card, still no joy.
  4. I have also, deleted the thumbnail folder on DCIM in case a jpg was corrupted, but nothing!
Question

Is my phone broke or is there something I can do?

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Danny

Sounds like you have a dodgy device. Those reporting problems with the phone getting warm or excessive battery wear and tear have had their phone's replaced with ones that work fine.

I'm afraid I've not heard of your camera problem before, but there's a chance you might have another app interfering with it. Do you have many 3rd party apps installed?

As for the battery use, have you looked to see what's been using it? If it's cell standby, that'd explain both the heat and the poor battery life. When I'm in a poor signal area, my phone dies insanely fast. My bedside table is one of those places and it can go from 100% to 80% just overnight, and will feel warm to the touch.

Still, I definitely recommend contacting HTC UK - from what I've read, their service has been absolutely delightful and it doesn't take too long to get a fix, depending on whether you opt to have it replaced or repaired.

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I had quite a few 3rd party apps downloaded but I have near enough deleted all of them in an effort to resolve my problems but to no avail.

The majority of the battery power i.e. 60-65% is showing as the display, but this still remains the same when I dim the screen to the lowest setting and have time off to 30 secs. I dont know about other users but this seems considerably high?

My display use is always in the 60% range regardless of brightness settings. But then, I normally only turn the screen down low when I'm using it loads, so that sort of makes sense that it's consistent.

Go ring HTC and have a cry on their shoulder. They'll sort you out no problem. There was definitely at least two other users with either the supreme battery issue or the hot phone one. Seems like yours has both.

I phoned HTC this morning and have reported my problems listed at the beginning of my thread.

They are sending a courier out tomorrow to collect the item and said I will get it back within 10 days!

HTC sounded surprised by my camera problems and battery useage...maybe an act?

Ill wait to see what they come back with but pretty gutted its broke. My iPhone lasted me 18 months no problems...oops, although I do prefer my Nexus despite its recent issues :D

Hope they can get it back to me in a week, instead of 10 days.

Glad to hear you're getting it sorted, hopefully you'll get a lovely working device back. If you remember, please let us know what happens! I'm all for hearing more good stories of HTC UK service. Was sunny for the first time since I can't remember when and I noticed today that the dust issue is waaaaay worse than can be seen on a cloudy day. May have to bite the bullet and get it sorted.

OK so I have an update...

HTC sent a courier the next day to pick up the phone.

It was UPS and they came to pick the phone up by hand, as in they had no box or anything secure for me to put my phone in. When I expressed my concern to the courier he said put some selotape around the box (original nexus box) as it will get pinched at the depo if it isnt secure...but dont worry the lads get searched before they leave but it has slipped through in the past! He gave me no receipt or nothing!

I rung HTC immediately and they put my mind at rest. They said their systems because of google are very american and that they were trying to get them to change their ways. The guy at HTC was really nice and gave me my tracking number to track the phone through UPS's systems.

I have received several emails updating me of the status of my order and it arrived at HTC the next day i.e. yesterday at 11am.

I then received an email at 4pm saying that the phone was ready and awaiting courier pickup.

This morning I rung HTC and they confirmed the phone has been fixed and a new MOTHERBOARD fitted. A motherboard failure on a one month old Nexus?? Go figure!

ps: Customer service has been fantastic and I couldnt have asked for a quicker service. It was fixed with 5 hours.

Ok so my phone was delivered back to me at 8.30am yesterday morning and it is working again!! The camera is working and the battery seems to be lasting longer than it did and also the phone is more responsive.

The motherboard must have seriously been damaged - I wonder what will have caused that??

As for HTC Europe's customer service 10/10!!

The Problem is not HARDWARE RELATED. i had the exact same problem and suffered for almost a month. there is NO definitive answer on google. ive searched and searched. ive done EVERYTHING from reseating the memory card to flashing weird kernels to applying pressure on the camera. BUT in the end the solution was very easy.

Solution : REVERT YOUR FIRMWARE TO FRF91. TOTAL STOCK and UNROOTED. it installs an old radio version and im almost certain the problem was due to the Radio version. heres the link for the firmware : Update-Passion-Full-FRF91.zip - , Google, Nexus, One,, N1,, Passion,, OTA,, FRF91 . i used AMON RA's latest recovery to do so. wipe EVERYTHING 3 times. and flash the zip. also.. you need to be rooted at first to install the recovery from terminal. if you're new to this recovery/flashing roms.. google it. its fairly simple.

this worked for me miraculously and i do hope it works for you all . :)
happy to help.
