Question from a newb

In the Applications section of the "settings" area, there is a choice called, "running services". How can I tell what is safe to close there?

Have you been having any problems with lag or something similar?
I imagine you are looking for extraneous services to close to save battery life, RAM or CPU usage, right?

At any rate if there hasnt been any noticeable problems I wouldnt worry. I was always looking to close things on impulse when I first got my phone but I have since realized it isnt really necessary. I have found that if my RAM is filling up, and it rarely does (but loading many web pages has been the only thing that can do it) I can easily find some apps/ages that arent being used and kill them. They are almost surely using the RAM at a much larger rate than your processes. As far as CPU, I haven't found mine to be overloaded yet. Sometimes apps/processes spike, but I havent seen it effect my actual user experience.

Now as far as battery, you can go to Menu>Settings>About Phone>Battery Use, and see what is eating the batt. You will see that the display is #1 culprit by a long shit, and then most likely Android System is the negligible second. (in other words, it is still not necessary to worry about processes)

Unless you are experiencing specific problems with lag or general functionality I would only worry about how to manage the display. You can try Juice Defender.

Hope this helps. ;)
