Android Data Folder

What is the use of the Android Data folder. I just read that it's a folder for data to run the apps. I thought each app had its own data/cache area. Is this different.

Can the info that's in the Android/Data folder be erased safely or no.

no do not delete it. it looks like it is for data that is directly tied to your system os. it has nothing to do with 3rd party apps.
