Help Internal memory size?

Hi guys

According to android information system; the max internal memory is 147mb, I have 14.75 mb (9%) left. This means I have used 132,75mb

According to app brain, I have 69 apps with a total of 140mb. Surely the move to SD built into froyo should move more than 7.25mb? Most of my apps have the feature.

I know this is the poorest way of getting apps to SD but surely it should move more than that?

I am going to have a go at the noob guide to moving apps to SD later to see if it improves things. I need to do something.

I am at a stage now where apps not update. i have to uninstall the old version and then reinstall the new version.

Its not just apps taking up internal memory, its their associated dalvik cache and app cache.

The mod install location you refer to may help save a little more space, but the best solution really is to root and custom rom with a2SD+...

Or root and use a custom MTD partition (which although easy, I'd call it an advanced level modification.

I actually use the last 2 methods. I have a 1GB ext partition on my SD card (600MB free) and 293MB intrernal memory partition (222MB free)

I have looked through all the app caches and cant see anything major. Unsure what a dalvik cache is though.

Im going to go with the noob method first but I will no doubt root at some point. I have only had the phone a few weeks and am in a 2 year contract. I am sick of the limitations already. Really though, why doesnt HTC provide some sort of fix? Why make a top of the range phone with such limited internal memory?

My internal memory seems to be filling more all the time without me even installing anything new. This is shocking after only 8 weeks or so with the phone.

I really need to act now, didn't really want to root this early. I am giving 3 until Christmas to sort my poor signal out or I am back onto them. Cant root until after then really. In the meantime, it really is shocking :( Is there a way to clear the dalvik cache? (dont know what it is though ;))

Memory gets used every day for a number if reasons, including text messages, emails, deleted emails (in Trash folder), Gallery thumbnail cache, other app caches, saved app data like SMS client backgrounds, FolderOrganizer data, LauncherPro settings data, etc, etc, etc.

I use Astro, the file manager app. In Astro, press menu > More > Preferences > Cache. This lets you delete stored thumbnail data and non-essential app cache data. I also limit the number of emails and text messages my phone can store, delete unwanted and unused apps. Finally, I reboot the phone every now and then just in case there's any orphaned data hiding in the phone memory.

Thanks for this. I have used Asto which cleared up about 1MB :( and emptied the trash folder. Looks like resorting to uninstalling some apps :( I only have 9% memory so I cant install anything else until it is above 10% again. It really is poor that I am forced to go for rooting at some point which will void my warrenty.

Does the mod install method really make much difference? From what I hve read, it only changes the SD to default for apps that have the move to SD feature anyway.
