How easily, or not, does the HD's screen scratch?

I'm considering getting a screen protector, but I'm also wondering how much it'll affect sensitivity/responsiveness.

If I do get something to protect my phone, what is the best material/brand/manufacturer to go with? Or perhaps just a leather case would be enough? That way the screen stays perfect and it's still protected when I'm not using it.

After all, I heard the screen quality is pretty good. It's glass, or am I thinking of a different phone? It might not be a "Gorilla" screen like the Samsung Galaxy, but I've heard it's pretty resilient... I think it should be ok with just a leather case, unless anyone here's already got some bad experiences with the screen?

To be honest i'm amazed. The Aluminum body work really helps. I've had it in my jacket and on all types of surfaces and not a single scratch. On the screen or on the back. I was initially considering a Screen protector and a case but now i'm like "Why bother?"

Plus i cant be bothered going through the hassle of taking the phone out and then having the sleeve in another hand. Also if you're considering a leather case don't go for the official HTC one. People are saying it's a tight fit.

I always put a screen protector on my smartphones...it's just common sense. It doesn't detract from response to touch whatsoever but they keep the screen free from the microscopic scratches that will eventually annoy you over time. Also, less likely to chip if you drop it on a rough surface.....accidents DO happen, that's why they're called "accidents".

Lastly, it'll be worth more if you come to sell it at a later date and can say "as good as new".;)

I personally prefer to have the phone protected from the elements both on the screen and case, currently I'm using a Gell cover for the back, and the plastic covers from the front (which can be a little fiddly getting on without bubbles ect but after a couple tries it works)

Gell Cover: G5-Online HTC Desire HD Black SUPREME Protective Gel: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Screen Protectors: SUNNY SAVERS HTC Desire HD / A9191 CLEAR SCREEN: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

In regards to responsiveness, when you first put the case on its a little jerky on the fingers as the film isn't smoothed out yet, but after a few minutes of use you don't notice its there any more :)

I don't use a screen protector either. Have a Nexus One since Feb, and it looks like it did the day it left the factory. Have my DHD for a week now, and same thing. I even had dirt on my hand the one day, and I could feel it in between my finger and the glass, but after I cleaned it, not one little scratch. I do use cases though. I actually just ordered an OtterBox for the DHD. Looks really nice. Can't wait to get it.

4 days and I had a single hairline scratch right in the middle of the screen. Its not big enough to notice unless the sun shines on it in just the right way, but its big enough to tell me GET A SCREEN PROTECTOR

The screen will scratch, and you will regret not protecting it.

I got a cheapo universal screen protector (well a giant sheet of it, and cut it myself to size(third time lucky)), and no change to the visibility of the screen, and just as sensitive as before.

And when I next scratch it, I can peal off the protector, and put on another one
